The Onkyo would really be struggling to drive a full setup of 4 ohm speakers. It's capable of driving 4 ohm loads, but it isn't really ideal.
The 4 ohm setting on the 806 essentially limits the current, so that the AVR won't go into protect mode. This can really decrease the dynamics of the speakers, and isn't going to be pushing them to their potential.
If you're set on those speakers and AVR, you may want to look into an external multi-channel amp.
If you're looking into a 5.1 setup, you could either get a 5 channel amp, or get a 2 channel amp for the front left/right channels, and a 3 channel amp for the surrounds/center.
Likewise, if you're looking into 7.1, you could get a 7 channel amp, or a 2 channel amp for the fronts, and a 5 channel amp for surrounds/center.
Adcom, Rotel and Parasound all have great amps that won't break the bank, if you don't mind buying used.

The receiver is both a pre-amp and a power amp in one chassis. You'd want to look into power amps to connect to the receiver.
There are also pre-amp processors, which are receivers without a power amp section. They require external power amps to drive your speakers.The nirvana inducer-

+1 on what Curt said, pretty smart guy that Curt. The Onkyo probably would be able to pull it off, but like he said you will be losing alot of potential in the speakers by using that Onkyo. However, you could like he said buy a decent amp and hook them up to the 806 and call it a day. I have the 806 and it is quite a solid unit, the speakers I have hooked up to it are 8 Ohm, so it does a fantastic job.HT Rig
