Sounds to me like you are off to a good start. I myself have Monitor 70's and a CS2, so I can speak from experience you will not be dissapointed. I am at work and don't have access to my other E-mail account here so I just started a new thread instead. I can promise you that will be blow away by the improvement in sound over what you used to run, I know I was when I upgraded my HT from an Onkyo HTIAB. If your AVR has HDMI in/out you SHOULD be able to get sound out of it from your PS# using your AVR as passthrough, which is what I do. Hook up a HDMI cable from the back of your PS3 to one of your AVR's HDMI in slots via HDMI cable and then run another one form the HDMI out on your AVR to the HDMI in on your TV. You will have to change the settings on both your AVR and the PS3 to output video and sound via HDMI since that is not the default setting. If it doesn't work then it will require further troubleshooting but that is the way I do it and it works fine. As for your final product are you looking to go 5.1 or 7.1? I see that your ARV is capable of 7.1 but keep in mind that a well setup 5.1 will sound better than a cramped 7.1 anyday. Bottom line is if you don't have room for 7.1 don't spend the $ of cramming in two more speakers. As for your surrounds I have Mnitor 40's and they do a very good job, you could use Monitor 50's or even Monitor 60's for surrounds, but that seems like overkill to me, lol. Your AVR puts out 110W per channel (give or take) so that will be enough for the 70's and the CS2 and whatever surrounds you decide on. Keep in mind though that somewhere down the road you are going to want to see what those 70's can really do by adding an external amplifier and from my quick inspection of the back of your AVR I don't see pre-outs for adding an external amp (but I may be wrong) so that won't be an option. Don't get me wrong the 70's will soundf just fine w/ the power your AVR will be giving them, just trying to warn you about the upgrade bug, lol. Also you will eventually want to incorperate a sub, not sure what you have now but just FYI. I own a Polk Audio PSW125 which by no means is the granddaddy of subs, but for my budget and my setup it works just fine. Most people will recommend SVS, Velodyne and brands like that but most of those subs retail for more than you have spent on your HT so far, lol. Anywhoot, good luck and if you have any more questions, you now have your own thread, lol. Congrats on the purchase and welcome to Club Polk.

In another thread it looks like per my AVR it only outputs video and not audio which is weird. The current sub I am using is of course a Sony one. Can't remember if it's 10" or 12." It's okay and should be replaced but that will be the last thing to be replaced as the speakers should be the top on the list.

So you suggest 5.1 over 7.1 I guess I always thought the more speakers the louder and better the sound will be lol.

As for the surround speakers newegg once again has a good deal going on here is a link

Oh and for anyone who wants to add anything this is the post I was responding to, sorry lol.

    Wutadumsn23

I sent you an email since I cant send PM till I reach 10 posts. if you didnt get it this is what I wrote you, I'm not trying to hijack someone else thread ya know

Okay so this is what I am up to. Right now my reciever is a Pioneer VSX-917V and I have all sony speakers and a 12" sony sub hooked up. My Speakers include 4 bookshelf, one sub, a center and 2 of these little super small speakers.

I use movies through HDMI on my PS3 although my reciever doesnt do HDMI sound so I have optic cables hooked up and my tv is a Samsung 56" DLP 1080P.

From another forum people have suggested I upgrade my speakers to get better sound and so I have made my first purchase in terms of home audio speakers in over 8 years.

    I bought 2 of these
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882290015

and one of these center ones
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882290024

I bought them from Newegg and it cost about $600.

I plan on buying 2-4 more floorstanding speakers to replace those Sony's I hooked up, the speakers are quite pricey so I cant go all out right now. It's a little hard to hear people talking right now with my setup....or I just have bad ears but I'm 27 so I don't think that's it. :P

    Any suggestions?

I don't know much about your AVR, but HDMI passes both audio and video so not sure why yours wouldn't, may just take some tinkering. Yes, I recommend 5.1 over 7.1, but only if your room doesn't allow you to do 7.1. IMHO a well setup 5.1 will sound better than a cramped 7.1, so more isn't always better, lol. Typically speaking the larger floorstanders like the 70's you bought are used for your mains and (this is just my opinion) you use smaller ones (like the 40's) for your surrounds. Most of the soundtracks for movies are formatted to send sound to certain speakers and no matter what you are running for your surrounds they are only going to get some of the audio sent to them. I am by no means an expert either and I know of plenty of people who use Monitor 60's as surrounds, so it is up to you ultimately. Like I said I use the 40's and am very pleased by their performance, but you may get other/better suggestions from some of our more experienced and knowledgeable forum members.

That's not a bad price for the 60's, but like I said I would get the 40's ($150 shipped) and use the extra money to upgrade your AVR or sub. Just my $.02. If you are sold on the 60's though, it is your HT and if you would rather spring for the 60's for your surrounds it is you who will have to be happy with the results.

Here is a copy of the manual if you wanna take a gander. I would very much like that. Right now I have my PS3 running HDMI to my AVR and than a HDMI running to the TV and I only have cable during football season so than I have another HDMI running from the cable/sat box to the AVR. Makes sense?

I have a feeling it is a problem with your settings on your PS3. I know I had mine hooked up via TOSLINK optical cables back in the day too until I figured out how to get it working via HDMI. I will have to check my settings on my PS3 when I get home from work and see exactly what it is supposed to be set to. You have everything hooked up right with your HDMI cables as far as I can tell, so it doesn't seem to be a problem with that.

Ya I can live with the optic cable, I doubt it sounds that much better over optic. I can mess with the settings sometime and check if I can trouble shoot it but there are bigger issues to worry about.

Now I just have to make sure I have everything in my settings for my AVR just right. Any suggestions?

It wont sound better on this receiver since it can't process the higher end sound streams such as DTS Master HD and DD+
    Main Surround -
    Epson 8350 Projector/ Elite Screens 120" / Pioneer Elite SC-35 / Sunfire Signature / Focal Chorus 716s / Focal Chorus CC / Polk MC80 / Polk PSW150 sub

    Bedroom - Sharp Aquos 70" 650 / Pioneer SC-1222k / Polk RT-55 / Polk CS-250

    Den - Rotel RSP-1068 / Threshold CAS-2 / Boston VR-M60 / BDP-05FD

But compared to DD or something like that its not a big change like 8track to CD. I mean it is better but prob. not very noticable to the layman.

+1, I was very impressed when I got my 806 and was able to do Dolby Digital True HD and DTS HD MA on my PS3. IMHO, quite a difference between that and the older formats.
