So I just bought some new speakers from Newegg and I noticed in the picture there are several places to put speaker wire (pix below)

What you are seeing are two sets of terminals in the event you want to bi-amp/bi-wire your speakers.
There are jumpers installed that connect both sets of terminals for a 'normal' (single) set of speaker wires.
When you get the speakers, hook up your speaker wires to the bottom set: one to the red and one to the black terminals.
Then make sure that the metal jumpers that connect the bottom terminals to the top terminals are securely in place and that the top terminals are firmly tightened.
You are now ready to enjoy your new speakers!

IMHO no it is not worth the cost of the extra speaker wire, and most people here will agree. Some people have reported a slight diff. but nothing that makes me want to go out and try it, lol.HT Rig

Thank you for the info. i look forward to getting my new speakers, should kick the butts out of my bookshelf sony ones I have been using for the past 8 years.
So I bought these suckers, what do you guys think, a good buy? It was $609.97 I figured since they are on sale I would buy them now and buy two more floorstanding ones later on.
Two of these

and for the center

Seems like decent prices.
Also read the "Monitor" series has now been replaced with the TSi's. They are pretty much the same speakers nah?Home Theater:

Okay so this is what I am up to. Right now my reciever is a Pioneer VSX-917V and I have all sony speakers and a 12" sony sub hooked up. My Speakers include 4 bookshelf, one sub, a center and 2 of these little super small speakers.
I use movies through HDMI on my PS3 although my reciever doesnt do HDMI sound so I have optic cables hooked up and my tv is a Samsung 56" DLP 1080P.
Bought the reciever like 2 years ago from Best Buy.Home Theater:

Are you sure you can't do HDMI through your receiver? i am sure you receiver has HDMI outputs but i could be wrong.
EDIT: your receiver will do HDMI video and sound are you sure your setting it up right? -
It has 3 HDMI ports. Two in and on out. I changed the setting to HDMI through my PS3 and I dont get any sound. I have a thread going here about my issue here is the link.
http://forums.highdefdigest.com/home-theater-gear/86636-pioneer-vsx-917v-hdmi-audio-issue.html
Also someone suggested I buy these instead of the Polk Speakers, here is the lonk for that too lol
It's two pages and the link is on the second page if you wanna take a look at it.

I don't have any experiance with the PS3 but something is not right. Not sure if its a setting on your PS3 or not. But you should be getting sound with HDMI.
Do you by chance have a DVD Player with HDMI or one you could borrow, and hook it up and see if your getting any sound with HDMI?
If so then its a setting in your PS3 if not it may be your receiver. But personally i think its a setting in your PS3.
Maybe somebody could chime in here on the PS3.
I have not been to CS in a long time. Has cave of the winds gone down hill?
Garden of the gods is beautiful.
Good luck with your new setup. Let us know what you come up with on the HDMI issue.
Peace,
Larry. -
Strife,
I would take "Splicer" suggestions with a grain of salt. Look at the equipment he runs in his setup. He has a 5 year old RPTV with no-name speakers that he says are the best for the money (TAD).
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1038756&page=1
Read that thread and you'll see he was all but humiliated by trying to pawn off his TAD speakers as the best for the money. They don't even have a crossover, just a full range driver and a tweeter with a cap.
I think what you got will make you very happy. They don't seem to like Polk a lot there, but they also live in a different (read: $$$$$) world.Main Surround -

Also,
Toolfanforlife: Where are you seeing this receiver will do HDMI audio? A lot of receivers from 2 years ago only did video switching but no audio decoding over HDMI. Page 58 of the manual states:
To hear audio from your HDMI component
through this system, make analog and/or
digital connections as necessary.
On the rear panel, you must connect to the
audio jacks from a set of audio/video inputs (for
example, DVR/VCR as shown in the
illustration).
• Without this connection, HDMI audio will
still be output from your TV or plasma
display (though no sound will be heard
from this receiver).
I dont think this receiver does HDMI audio. You can also look at the sound modes it has, and the DTS Master and Dolby Digital Plus are not listed.Main Surround -

Let me see if i can find what i found, I could be wrong. BRB
EDIT: You are correct this receiver has no HDMI audio.
Sorry Strife, nguy is right. I went back and read the manual. If i got your hopes up i apoligize.

I just wanted to thank you guys so much for all your input. I did write Pioneer when I first got that reciever to see what the issue was and they said it did not have HDMI audio out I guess I just hoped they where wrong, guess not. Kinda dumb they have video out and not audio. Anyways I doubt the sound is "that much" better so no need to upgrade the reciever just for that feature. I think I will stick with the Polk speakers I bought and just buy two more in a couple of months.Home Theater:

Make sure that you sign up for emails from Newegg because you will find damn good deals from them on Polk gear from time to time. I got my 70's from them for $179 and my 60's for $119, so those prices will probably come back around at some point. I actually thought that the 70's were still $179/each right now. Either way, I think you'll thoroughly enjoy them with that CS2.

If you have very good speakers, the sound modes afforded by HDMI audio are quite good as they are much higher bitrate. Some say it's better, some don't. On paper it certainly is!
I haven't upgraded yet either so I won't be enjoying those modes yet!Main Surround -
