So I have a local bite for a pair of B&W DM2000s that are in great shape for $250. Well it was $200 but $50 for deliver (3 hour drive).

They look fantastic and I hear they sound fantastic. I think these will go into my 2 channel setup with my Yamaha amplification (Mx-1000u).

Sound like a good deal? Should be able to get them delivered Thursday

With what else you have, I feel that they won't match up. Not a big fan of them anyway. They are not a musical speaker IMO. None of them.

What would you have them go with?

I'm not running one system. I'm certainly not hooking them up to the sony in my sig.

I'd get your ears on a pair of similar B&W's before committing. They're not for everyone and I'm not sure how well they'd pair with Yamaha gear.

What would you suggest I pair them with? It's not a huge investment (like A9's...) right now and I'm not a super critical listener.

    I have a NAD 114 pre and 214 amp. I also have a Yamaha C65 pre + M45 amp (or mx-1000u).

I'm not super high end, nor claim to be so I figure I'd get them and be happy with them in stereo. I'm in the market for an Adcom 555 and a Golden theater GTA setup, but that will be down the line (friend getting rid of them cheap).

You can always sell them for the same price if you're not satisfied. $50 delivery charge for a 3hr drive is effin good!
Have you had experience with B&W in the past? Some find them too analytical, especially in the high frequencies. I like B&W but I doubt I'd be able to live with them only unless I had the 800 series.
If you get them, try to find a pair of very short and sturdy speaker stands to get the tweeters up at ear level.

I think sitting down they are at ear level (i slouch).

My aunt has a pair of 602s powered by marantz in her home.... They sound amazing. I want to see if I can get them (they came with the house and i bet she wouldnt give a crap if I swapped them for say a pair of Yamaha speakers)

Cool. So you're going for the 602's instead? They should be better than the DM's. Sounds like you enjoy the B&W sound. Go for it man!

Nono, I'm buyin the DM2000's and the 602's will come for free (hopefully). I'll ask my aunt and see if she'll even care.

If I do get the 602's they're going to replace my bedroom setup (Mirage Omni150s)

So I got the speakers and have been pretty happy with them. They don't really suit my tastes, even though they do match my decor (my house is 1950's).

I put them on CL for 375 or a trade. I was offered my choice of one of these:
Model numbers on the amps I listed are Sansui AU-717, Rotel RA-985bx, Rotel RX-1050, NAD 2200, Rotel RB 1080 & McIntosh MA-5100. I will have to look at the Denon to get a model number if you are interested in it.

Not the McIntosh because he wants money for it in addition, and I don't think I like the way it looks. I really like the way the Rotels look, and I have a NAD 214 already (not a power envelope but a stereophile magazine best buy) I was thinking the RB1080.

    What you guys think?

They perform beautifully! But alas I have tired of them. Powered them with my NAD214 and Rotel pre... I just picked up a set of Forte II's for cheap and will be selling the B&Ws. I'll pick up another pair of them, something newer in the future!

    Nguyen,

The only B&W speakers worth anything are the Diamond series.

    Nguyen,

Forgot, and do not mean to thread jack. While I was in OKC for the holiday, I stopped by Ultimate Electronics off 240 and Walker and found that they now carry Focal speakers. I was shocked, it is the chorus and profile line and if you have not heard Focal's, you should.

I'm selling them anyways so why does it matter? You came into the thread to give an opinion without any content behind it.

I came onto this thread to inform you as well as another that B&W are not all bad. Good for you that you are selling it. I also just wanted to point out what is available and new near you to listen to. You seem to like your music. I guess that means lack of content to you. Brilliant.

I think the DM 2000's are nice. I have a pair that I bought new in the mid-80's and matched them with bridged NAD 2155s. When I bought some CDM 9Nts I moved the DMs to to the rear and only recently replaced them with CDM SNT's.

They still sound very good and if you were local to me I would snatch yours up in a heartbeat for what you paid for them... maybe more! The only problem with them is that are pretty old and it might be hard to find parts should you ever need to repair them... but for that price who cares.

You can't just come in to say '**** is good' and not say why, or how, or what comparisons it has to other products. I can say that "Sony speakers are good", but that means nothing without some sort of backing information.

My point wasn't that your statement was incorrect, but you had no basis for it that would help me make a decision.

I commented after the fact that you have bought the B&W. It would be pointless for me to state how it would sound to you. You already had it, and I assumed have made a conclusion on your short experience with it. As far as backing, I have compared the B&W line to many others, such as Wilson Audio, Focal, Vienna Acoustic, Martin Logan. The list goes on and on. I just found that in the price range, the B&W sounded very accurate. To some it may be too forward in sound, to others its just about right. Once again, you bought them, I gave my thoughts, and then? You took offense to what? The fact that I merely mentioned the higher line of B&W are the only ones worth listening to? I also do not see anyone else comparing the speakers you bought to any others? You calling me out? Trying to be kind and inform you of things around you, I guess that was to much.

Your DM's are the pentagon-shaped, class-topped 2 way speakers, right?
They actually were one of B&W's better designs at their moderate price point.

The vintage DM series were just ok...usually tight bass with a rolled off high end, like a ton of speaker brands back then. The DM2000 series from B&W was a little better on the top end. This was the start of a pretty good decade for B&W since I've found more that I liked here than anything they offer now. It would be cooler if they were in good shape but I'd part them out or move them to the next guy....keep you eyes out for minty fresh models.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
