Running it straight to the amp.....(waiting on pre-amp) impressive clarity.
Loads up BD's in under 30 seconds....upconversion is so good I reallly cannot tell the difference sometimes.....
USB both front and back....throws media information on the screen for you.
Very happy so far. Had 1 DVD-r fail to read on me but then again the brand of the copy was Sony....so go figure? a different brand same movie worked fine.
BD-Live connection @ back...anyone know if movies will be streamed via this port someday?
Remote is excellent in my opinion....haven't messed with default color settings yet.....
Overall a very worthwhile player that I've only just begun to enjoy.

hi randy, as a lucky barsterd oppo owner i wana ask you about 2.35 material, when you watch a movie in 2.35 can this player format the ratio to fill the whole screen like a stand alone video processor, that inturn you could send that signal to a projector to be stretched out by an anamorphic lens giving one the whole pixel count for a 2.35 screen
-
I got my bro's dark knight BD and it's says on the back: "16x9 variable 2:4 and 1.78:1" if you mean does it switch to those screens and fill-up the whole area....yes it does I've seen it go bigger throughout that flic for those particular scenes. I was wondering why?? and u just helped me find out.
....u lost me on the anamorphic stuff tho the Benq has a button for that. Tell me a flic that is all 2:35 if this doesn't answer your question and I'll try to get a hold of it.
I find the movie formats rather confusing at times so I dont try to decipher it all..just try to roundup equipment that does it all....Cool stuff: Adcom GFA-555, GFP-710, Oppo BDP-83, Monitor 10's w/RDO198s, rebuilt and modded XO: Sonicap/Mundorf topside, Daytons Low.

Randy, Just a question. How is the build quality on the new Oppo? Does it have substance or did they cheap out in construction? Specifically, I have an old Oppo DV-970 that a friend gave me for use in my guest room. The loading tray on the unit is so thin and flimsy, it could literally snap off if one wasn't careful. My biggest hesitation with the Oppo is I know it's a decent performer, because the put the right stuff under the hood, but the build quality is often not as good as say the Pio Elite or Denon players and that bothers me. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks. DJ

The unit itself is neither overly heavy or overly light.....the tray being flimsy I would have noticed...and it is not.
Cosmetically it is very good looking.....and an american product. So far knock on wood no delays on opening or closing the tray. It turns on instantly....and the open CD button turns it on as well....so if u dont have the remote handy and want to slide in a CD....it will respond.
The remote doesn't like corners...that is to say behind a desk or speaker it doesn't always pickup...that is maybe the only thing a true nitpicker could pick on....keyword is always...because it does sometime work....but truth be told I'm sure it wasn't designed to work around objects blocking it's sensor....so correctly speaking it's working beyond it's design.
Outside of this the rest of the build quality only time will tell.
I do definitely appreciate it's front end cosmetics..bold and sharp...LED's have unique colors I haven't seen on other units...not that there are many I think 1 or 2...but they are different hues than most. Unless you want a PS3 to play your music and movies...I think for it's hardware it's tuff to beat....I guess it is a bit pricey but not by much more than others...for a new product it's fair in range. And again it's American and seems worthwhile.
