New Monitor10 Project

I am a big fan of Polk speakers. I currently own a set of S-10's, RT-5's, Monitor4's, four RM6000BD's, a pair of RTA11T's and now a pair of Monitor10's. From what I can tell by doing some research here on your site, these are an early set with American-made Peerless tweeters and vinyl veneer. After testing I concluded that one tweeter was non-op and one mid driver was frozen. Further inspection revealed a loose magnet on the bad mid-driver. My question is are these drivers replaceable and if so, at what cost? If the drivers are not avail. are other drivers substituted? What value fuse is used? Thanks for the forum!

if you have patients, than ebay would be your best option. peerless tweeters appear on there quite often, and as far as the mid-woofer is concerned some people on here think that its necessary to replace all of them at once but i disagree, you might even find the number of the ones you have to match on ebay also. good luckMost of them only hear how loud it sounds, and the rest of us hear everything else -

If you are interested in a trade, I'll give you 2 working SL2000 for your one working Peerless plus I'd be interested in the broken MW6500. I'll also cover all shipping shipping costs. The tweeters in the ebay ad don't look like any of the SL2000 tweeters I've got, black domes instead of silver. If you do order new RDO tweeters from Polk, I'd still like to buy the one Peerless and MW6500.

The sl2000 won't work as intended in Polk speaker that uses the Peerless driver. It won't fit the opening w/o a little modification and of course the x-over's are slightly different.
Just an FYI

For anyone looking at the auction TFLF posted, those arent sl2000's. They look like replacement RDO's to me, not positive but I would say the RDO-94's.
DaveOnce again we meet at last. -
Those are RDO's......probably 194-1's but it's hard to see the wire terminals in the photo. Those will not fit in an opening where a Peerless is used. You could slightly enlarge the opening with a dremel tool as others have done, but it takes a bit of know how.

Thanks for the feedback. So if i'm hearing this right, both the tweeters AND the mids are out of production, and that leaves on-line auction sites etc. to carry on with Monitor 10's. And that there are other options but they require mods. to the cabinet? Is the "magnet repair" idea for the midrange driver a viable option? I appreciate you guys taking the time.

Hi, have you called Polk's cust.service about a replacement 6.5" MW? I don't know which models are still available, I'm going to "experiment" with re-centering loose magnets as soon as I acquire a few broken ones. As far as enlarging the recess for RDO tweeters, anybody that can mortise a door for a hinge should be able to do the baffle with just a sharp utility knife and a chisel. If you get desperate, I've got one Peerless that is looking for a mate,I don't recall whether mine has the little hole in the dome or not.Good luck!

So is the reverse true? Will a Peerless Tweeter mate well with later model speakers that had SL2000's? Also sounds like SL2000 "hole" will be too big for the Peerless. These can't be that different in size, can they?Yamaha RX-A2050 AVR (5.0.2); LG OLED77C2 4K TV(4) Polk Monitor 10B's w/SoniCaps, Mills, and RDO-194 tweets (R/L F/R)(2) Polk RC80i (Top Middle)Polk CS300 center channelAnalog: B&O TX2 Turntable, Nakamichi Cassette Deck 1Digital: Pioneer CLD-99 Elite LD, Panasonic DMP-UB900 UHD Blu-RayBedroom: Arylic Up2Stream AMPv3 driving Polk Monitor 4's w/peerless tweets -

You are correct and yes they are different enough in size to compromise the solid seal you need in order for the passive radiator to work effectively.
There must be no air leaks in the cabinet since the PR's movement is based on the pressurized air in the cabinet. Putting even a slightly smaller tweeter (like the peerless) could compromise the seal and then you would have issues.
Also the x-overs are different enough that they don;t sound correct.
FWIW

Mine are only 400 after yours You need 6500 6.5 inchers. I have found some of the 6.5 inch units do not sound the same.
