I need suggestions on 5.1 surrounds
I bought a new ht system in may, onkyo 607,M50's,CS1,M10's(newegg promo w/amp) and psw10 sub(we live in a condo).Having suffered from upgraditis(and neweggs great prices) I now own a pair of M40's and M70's,CS2 on the way.I'm old school I liked the sound of the first system, but know I'll like the dynamic range of the 6.5 inch drivers more. looking at the on line info I can go with either M40 or M50 as rear channel speakers. would the M50's cabinets help give a better match for the 6.5 inch drivers? I plan to use the M10's for dolby plIIz height channels. What do you guy's think?

I currently run the exact same set up you are "building" (see signature) I run the Monitor 40's and have not been disappointed. I don't have any experience with the 50's so I can't offer any help there, keep in mind the 40's are pretty beefy and have no key-hole slots for wall mounting. The only options you have are to put them on stands or shelves, without having to alter the cabinet that is, lol. Good luck and welcome to Club Polk.HT Rig

Hi and welcome to Club Polk! While the rear speakers arent the source of as much detail in general it is probably a good idea to go for the larger speakers if you can. I would suggest that you put on a movie that has a dynamic surround sound track that uses the rear speakers a lot and test both the 40's and the 50's on the same section of movie to see if you notice a difference.____________________________________________________________

There isn't a tremendous difference between Monitor 40 and 50 in terms of sound period, and placement will affect the sound more. I would use whichever is easier to incorporate into your room/system - low and shallow tower (that may need a short stand) vs. large and deep bookshelf.
