SDA 2.3tl questions

I finally found a pair of SDA 2.3tl's close enough to pick up, and I am ready to buy them. I have a couple of questions for the experts:

1. The interconnect cable is not included. I am told it is the pin / blade type. Is there a reliable after market source for this cable, or do I need to search ebay etc. to find an original?

2. Does my Adcom 5503 have enough power to drive these efficiently?

3. Is $1000 a fair price?

4. Anything in particular I should look for when I go to inspect them?

If they are in great shape and sound a $1000 is fair, but i have seen them go for less.
It's all in what you are willing to pay. They are fantastic, and you can make your own interconnect cable or someone here may be willing to make you one.

I thought $1000 might be a little high, but every time I see a pair for sale they are too far away to pick up, and shipping costs a fortune for these. I am told they have brand new solid wood end caps, and new grille cloth, so I'm expecting them to look like new.

HA HA i know who these belong to, Trusted seller $1000 is a fair price if i lived closer to him they would be mine.

Go get them before someone else does thats all i can say. maybe he will work on the price a little when you go see them. but don't let them go if you really want them and plan to keep them.

The nice thing is you will be able to demo them when you get there. and trust me you will have a big smile on your face when he fires them up plus he has the power to make them sing.

Go get em cowboy.;) Lucky **** J/K

That's great to hear. He did mention that he was a forum member. I told him I am 100% serious and that I have cash in hand. We are getting our schedules together for the pick up. He was kind enough to say that since I am also a forum member that he would not sell them out from under me. I am sure he wants to see them go to a good home. So do I :)

I think the Adcom 5503 in non-common ground...$1000 is a decent price for your part of the country. I've seen them go for much more.

Does that mean it will work to run the 2.3tl's?

No, it means you'll need an IA-1
cable rather than a standard IC. Non-common ground amps and SDAs are a no no. Luckily you can use this type of cable with these speakers. There are some DIY threads about making them here. Search "Dreadnought" if you want to try an "uber" version.

You could call Adcom and ask if you can strap the grounds of each channel together. This would achieve common ground.

BTW that is an AI-1 cable that Ron is referring to.

    I b dickslexic...:p

The 5503 is the 3 channel version of the 5500 isn't it? Not sure how strapping the grounds would work.

I'm not sure either. Hopefully Ben will chime in, he has more experience with the multi-channel Adcoms than I do. I know I was able to strap both my speaker grounds and the chasis on the Adcom 565s I once owned.

Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.

    Think again, that's a bargain.

I think it entirely possible that the OP and I are after the very same 2.3tl's.... would that be just my damn luck or not?

I was under the impression you was going Monday to pick up the SRS's so I went to the person next in line.

I'm out of town right now babysitting 14 kids at Wisconsin Dells for my 5 year old birthday so I'll sort everything out when I get back tomorrow.

    Peace

no worries. I was considering both. The last PM I sent you asked that you give me until 8pm sunday to make a move, and I understand there may have been some confusion. It's all good if you have them committed already to the OP then that's cool.:) I respect your call and will have to wait for the next ones.

I have a 5503,have called Adcom...their reply was that it's O.K. to strap the grounds together.

I ran a pair of 1C's with no problems.

I've been on the road for a couple of days with no internet access.

Thanks for all the good info on the Adcom. I guess this isn't going to be as simple as I thought, but no big deal. I'll still need to get a pin / blade connect cable also.

Sorry NJ, I think we are on the same speakers. I replied to your PM, and I definitely don't want to step on anyones toes around here. I tried to call Lee this morning, but so far no answer. I am hoping to pick them up tonight or tomorrow morning.

Actaully I attribute it to bad luck, or perhaps a curse...

The material in the photos I have attached may be the cause of all my troubles. Since I have come into posession of this material, I have lost a 100k/year job when the company I worked for was bought out, My nasty divorce and the demise of my 1.2tl's, several dead end jobs, bad credit, and a general decay in my quality of life...what is shown in the pictures is about 6 ounces of misery and suffering. They are fragments of hull plate steel from the Titanic:eek:...

I must say, I am genuinely starting to feel bad about buying these speakers now. It sounds like, if not for some mis-communication, you would already have them. I really do want them quite badly, and I literally have the cash in my pocket, but I don't want any bad karma to come down on me, by taking them away from you. Since you made contact before I did, if you still want them, and they would contribute to an improvement in your quality of life, I will step aside, and wait for the next 1.2 tl's or 2.3 tl's to become available. I have promised Lee that I will buy these, and I don't want to back out on him unless I know that you will be getting them for sure. I have not heard back from him yet today, so PM me if you would like me to step aside.
