MMG-w setup
So I've had a set of MMG-W's sitting in my closet for about half a year waiting for a setup. I finally cleared the middle living room and drilled holes in the wall. They're set 8' apart, approximately 30" off the floor (sits right on top of the chair rail). I read it should be minimum 24" off the floor but others have told me your ears should be 2/3 of the way up the panel which means they should be about 10" off the ground for sitting position.
I can't seem to get them to image correctly. They're toed in at 30-35 degrees and it seems not as clear as I want. If i stand up and walk back and forth i can sometimes find that 'sweet' spot but it's odd to stand in it.
My other problem is how to wire them. Magnepan decided to hard wire a set of crappy speaker leads about 20" long into each panel and they are not removable. How do I connect these to speaker wire and not have it look ghetto, as well as preserving the best signal?
I had to swap out amplifiers as well. I was going to run them with my NAD preamp 114 to a yamaha M45 auto class-a amp which is 8/4/2 ohm stable. It turns out that with the preamp at 12 o'clock (100% or 0db i believe) and the gain on the amp cranked to 0db it was only "loud". Usually at that level any of the speakers I've ever used were unbearably loud. It started to get warm to, which has never happened before. Out went the M-45 and in came the MX-1000u....I've never had to use that amp but now I have a set that exercises them. I think I hit 349wrms on the meter @ 4ohms.
Anyways, any suggestions?
