Does anyone have any experience with the Polk PSW1000 sub? This is the dual 10" sub. Is it worth the money vs a comparable SVS? Maximum room size its good for? Thanks

$500 - 600. I've been looking for used SVS. Just waiting for the right deal and in the Chicago area or reasonable driving distance

Something I would consider over a PSW1000, even though I've never actually heard that particular model. I have heard a MicroPro, though, and they are hard to beat, and will handle music very well in addition to HT (you don't say what you're primary use will be).

I own an SVS, and think highly of them, but I think you'd have to wait awhile before you would find a comparable sub from them in your price range. There is one for sale in our Flea Market you may want to check out, a PB12-Plus/2, IIRC.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

My set up is used only for HT. The room is somewhat large, 26' x 26' x 7.5', but the HT is just a portion of that. The rest is pool table area, bar, etc. It's a large area to fill and get a good chest thumbing bass. I currently have a 8" sub left over from a OmniSat system I used to have. Its way undersized for the room and to accompany the Rti8's. The SVS PB12+/2 is in Vegas, I'm in Chicago, too far for shipping. There's a PSW1000 available locally, just wondering if it's worth it to consider or keep waiting for a SVS?

There are a few models SVS offer and currently, PB13 Ultra is their top of the line. I have both PB13 Ultra and PSW1000. While PB13 Ultra retails for around $1500 and PSW1000 can be found around $500 used or NEW, I think there is no comparison between these two for their output (SPL). The PSW1000 fits nicely for small HT room but the room your size requires two or more of the PSW1000. SVS PB13 Ultra hits to lower frequency (more bass down) than PSW1000 and louder but single PB13 Ultra may or may not fill your room as well.

OK, I did not realize how far away it was. Road trip? :D

If you could arrange a demo of the 1000, I say give it a shot.
But that's a huge room to try to fill with bass, regardless of which sub you look at (my 2 car garage is 26x26x8). It will be even more difficult if you are on a slab. An Ultra 13 may indeed be in order here. Good luck with this, report back with your solution.

And hey, an HT room with a bar and a pool table is not the worst problem to have!

I have a PSW1000 in an 11x12 room, and it will knock you down and kick you in the chest in the process if it is turned up. It blends in perfectly with 4 LSi15s. The cannon fire in Master And Commander makes you think you have just been hit by a cannonball.

$500 to $600 is a price range were you can get into a lot of good subs. I would recomend keeping an eye out for a used Sunfire True sub. Can't go wrong with 2700 watts of power that goes down to 18hz.

at that price range, MFW-15 probably is the best you can get. It is almost as good as the SVS Ultra 13 for much less $$$

All good advice. I think for the size of my room I'm going to pass on the PSW1000 and keep looking for the right SVS deal. I have investigated the MFW15, but I'm concerned about the reliability of the amps. There's lots of chatter about bad amps. New MFW15's are shipping the end of June with a "new" amp. These are reduced $200 for anyone interested. This is still an option, just concerned about taking a chance with an unproven fix. Thanks to all. Anyone want to sell their SVS????
