Guys,

I am a polk lover. I am looking to get a vintage music setup started and leave by Surroundbar 50 and RM101, Klipsch Sub 12 and Denon Avr in the living room for HT.

I have about 35 minutes to decide if I want these. Supposedly in Excellent condition.

SDA 2 (Pair)

But I am not sure what year they are or if they are a "A" "B"??

Please take a look at the pics. I have him down to $150 and I do not think he has the interconnect cables.

Advise.

Thanks!

Joe

Buy them. A steal at $150. You can always buy an interconnect cable on ebay or in the for sale area here. Check out what Neil did to his...

I cannot tell if they are A or B.

According to Polksda... I think these are the "B".

Here is an auction snap shot that is on Polksda.

I am not crazy about the finish, I would like black, but these look solid.

Ok, I should make the 1 hour drive I guess. I am nervous if they are blown. I keep reading they are tough to power and they are easily blown?

Anything specific I should listen for when I try them out?

    Thanks!

    Thanks for the welcome!

Make sure that all woofers and drivers are working. With the music on, I usually touch the rubber woofer surrounds to see if they are vibrating. Similar thing with tweeters. Try listening with your ears next to the drivers to check for distortion. With the interconnect disconnected, the SDA drivers shouldnt be working.

The big speaker-thing on the bottom is a passive radiator. Ideally, the speaker cabinets should be air-tight. Push in the passive gently and hold it there, the woofers should immediately push out and then slowly fall back (2-3 seconds).

    Joe,
Don't be nervous. The guys here will help you with any issue that could possibly arise. Your ears will tell you just about everything you need to know.
Chances are the Mw's/drivers are OK and you should replace the tweeters someday soon anyway. You may want to gently push in on the passive sub woofer to check for a tight set of speakers. Just gently push in on the passive sub woofer and let it return. The drivers should press out alittle and take about 2-3 seconds to return to original position. While your at it you can gently push in each driver to listen for any ugly or scratchy noise, this checks to see if a speaker is blown. Go for it!!

Those are 2B's and a steal at $150 even minus the chord. Even if a driver or two needs replacing. The passive radiators are a little harder to come by.

Run don;t walk to get them!!!

Ok I am going to go get them. The girl is asking questions..asking why we need big speakers blah blah.

I guess I could use these in my HT room and sell the Surroundbar? How do these perform for HT use?

    Thanks,

    Joe

    Those are NOT big speakers.

By the location of the blade/blade SDA connector on the back panel, they could be 2A's or the early 2B's. For $150.00, buy them.

For 150--parts alone are worth the purchase. Sure they're big by today's satellite standards or slim tower designs but take a look at some SDA-SRS1.2TLs if you want to see a BIG SDA! Show that to the girl!

I didn't think 2A's had the oak/walnut end caps. Early 2B's certainly had the b/b config for connecting the cable.
