Interest Check: Emotiva ERC-1 group purchase

This thread is inspired by all the banter on the Early B. Emotiva thread...

Let's put this one to rest, everyone. Here's your chance to decide for yourself how the ERC-1 stacks up.

Official "rules" can be established once we have a decent number of interested participants. I'd say $20 should be the minimum investment for any contributor. The player can then be Karma'd off to one of the participants, drawn at random.

Who's in?

Sounds fine to me since Face prompted me to even think about this option.

Great idea. Not in since I'm familiar with Emotiva already.

I got $20 on it...if we actually get enough people together to buy one.

I'd love to get my ears on one, and make my own decision regarding it's sound quality.

Put me on the list. I can put it up against my basically stock Jolida. That should make for a good shoot out.

I'll chip in 20 dollars for this.

I will do two A/B tests. First, compare the Emotiva to the Sony5400ES SACD/CD player. Second, compare the Emotiva output to its digital output through the Benchmark Dac1 Pre.

This will be a pure "ears only" subjective test.
Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes

Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
    Three 20 amp circuits.

I'm in for $20. Can't do any good comparisons, except to vinyl, does that count?:p But would like to hear this to see what a dedicated CDP sounds like.

Great news!! I contacted Emotiva earlier this week in regards to our plans here... the VP of Operations just e-mailed me back a response.

Emotiva is willing to sell Club Polk an open-box ERC-1 for 30% off! We should almost have enough monetary commitment at that rate. I will start an OFFICIAL thread for this in the next couple of hours. Just wanted to share with everyone that bit of information.

They already have open box players?

    j/k

This is a great idea for a demo. Tell them MIT jumped completely in and sponsored some cables. Having polkies pitch can get at some point into issues. Just saying

I won't lie, that's what I thought too... but maybe there's a reason for it other than QC or overall performance? Trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. :)

They probably used it for testing and/or demo'ing. It's common for a manufacturer to have several units available for testing and such before the product actually launches.

    I.E. Emo's UMC-1, Oppo 83, etc.
Pioneer 50" Plasma (PDP 5080 HD)
    Pioneer Elite VSX-01
    Panasonic BD35
    PS3
    Monster MP HTS1600 Power Conditioner
    Paradigm Monitor 7's v3 (Front)
    Paradigm CC370 v3 (Center)
    Paradigm ADP 370's v2 (Surround)
    Polk Audio Rti4's (Back)
    Paradigm PW 2100 V2 (Sub)

Coming Soon: 5 channel or 7 channel amp.
