i wana jump on a csi5 pretty soon here so if i do thats gona leave me with a spare csi3. My question is, i have rti6 and fxi3 surrounds ,would i be better buying another csi3 for 90 - 110 , i can get a csi5 at the mo for 179 from polk direct ebay , if i did this then would it be timbre matched withe the fxi and csi5. Where would i put the csi3's ? back or side? or would i be better off selling the csi3 and just go with a set of rti4 that can be had for like 120, also whats gona happen if i turn them csi'3 on thier sides ? i think cosmeticaly it would look better this way on top of speaker stands

wont running the rti6 and fxi3 give me an unbalanced rear sound environment ? Whats the benefit of the rti8's if i only use audio through an onkyo 607 for movies when hooked up on the pj, aren't the crossovers set to a point where its not really that advantageous because a subs gona do the lfe donkey work

Buy as much speaker quality as you can afford.

Not sure of your room size or layout, but, and this is just me - I think the setup you first described (RTi6s, CSi5, and FXi3s) would be a good one given the price point for those speakers.

You could sell your CSi3 and get some Blurays you've always wanted....or...maybe use the CSi3 as a single back surround?

Not sure of your layout, but you might be able to use the CSi3 for a 6.1 setup?

I'd just sell the CSi3 myself. You'll have a pretty good setup with the RTi6's and FXi3's with the CSi5.

Eventually pick up a pair of RTi8's and move the RTi6's to surround duty. It won't sound unbalanced. The RTi6's and FXi3's are timbre matched, and the AVR will take care of any differences in volume that they might have.

The benefit is a much livelier midrange. The two MW's on the RTi8's reproduce the same frequencies, so it's not really about producing lower frequencies. They do definitely have much better bass output though regardless. This is an advantage because it's much more solid down to the XO point and helps it to blend with the sub a little better IMO.

In my experience, the additional MW helps to tame the brightness of the RTi series a little bit as well.

i kinda love the way my front stage looks ,all sitting on the wood technology stands, if i got rti8's i would loose that look and would have to get rid of the rti6 stands because they sit a lepriconish 21 inches above ground. I couldent use them as surround stands because they would not sit the 3 ft above my ears, nor would i mount rears because i think they sound better pulled out from the wall. . If i went the extra csi3 and csi5 route then i could just mout the csi3's on the back wall, also dont the rti6 have the same drivers as the csi5 and doesnt the csi3 have the same drivers as the fxi3? i kinda would have thought this would have been the more balanced enviroment? Quest 1/ Whats the benifit of more midrange? can it improve the clarity of the dialoge in movies? quest 2/ will the csi5 improve the verbal better than the csi3 at low volume

As long as the drivers are timbre matched, they're going to sound fine together. Yes, the RTi6 and the FXi3 have different sized drivers, but they still have the same tonal qualities, since the drivers are essentially identical in everything aside from size. Your AVR will be able to compensate for any differences that you might have in volume.

I wouldn't worry to much about placing them the recommended three feet above ear level. That's what Dolby used to recommend, but with modern sound codecs and discrete soundtracks for each channel I don't think it's as big of an issue. I have my surround speakers placed at ear level, and I've found that to be more pleasing than above ear level.
Quest 1/ Whats the benifit of more midrange? can it improve the clarity of the dialoge in movies?

The midrange are is where a lot of the sound effects come from, and contains the frequencies that the human ear is most responsive too. Most of the dialogue is contained within the midrange frequencies as well. It's the most crucial frequency IMO.
quest 2/ will the csi5 improve the verbal better than the csi3 at low volume

Yes. A bigger center channel is going to make a noticeable difference no matter the volume. It will also be much more capable of reproducing the entire frequency range, especially down low.

i always thought the csi5 was just for bass frieks but now i have a better understanding. I never knew that you could place the rears so low to the ground and im glad i do now . I now regret buying the csi3 because my decision was made upon the receiver i used to have .Like all audio its a journey with many diffrent paths to travel down with no destination .I find myself now brainstorming over the csi5 and rti8 like never before knowing i can still keep my rti6's on there stands. Maybe i could punt my fxi for llz duty ,buy another csi3 for rear then get the csi5 and rti8 that way i get to keep everthing
