sealed or ported car subwoofer
I just purchased a pair of db1040dvc for my car. The manual says to use a sealed box of .66 cuft volume.
There was no mention of the possibility of using a ported box. Does this speaker not work well with a ported box? If it does work, what should the volume of the ported box be?
I have been reading that putting poly fill in the box improves the speakers performance. If I include it should I decrease the size of the box?
Thanks

I would try the car audio section; but welcome to the club.

.66cu ft is for Sealed. Use 1.25cu ft for vented. These figures double with two drivers in the same enclosure.
Do what you want... Tight bass = sealed. Lower extension = vented.
Polyfill is good to reduce resonance from the soundwaves bouncing off the sides... and should be taken into consideration when building an enclosure (volume - used space = ideal volume)

if everything is built to spec, i'd put a quality ported enclosure against a sealed any day. in fact, i REALLY wish i had gone ported myself.

some drivers are not suited for ported box....I don't know anything about that driver, but I would also go with ported if possible....Video: LG 55LN5100/Samsung LNT4065F
