I fail to see how making all of your employees stand instead of sitting in a chair makes them better workers. I would think all the sore feet and bad backs would make them work less.

Well employers can impose pretty much any conditions they want on there employees, but I think morale must be at an all time low and stress must be at an all time high there. Google has the right idea as far as im concerned with how they treat there employees. I do know one thing though I will never buy a product made by Canon.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

That's absolutely 'wonderful'. Another brilliant CEO idea. I guess that's why these guys get paid the BIG BUCKS. If I sat on the T-T with a stack of Audio mags for hours I'd never be able to think up something as stupid as this!

    Kudos to Canon! Not!

Makes perfect sense to me. A little motivational stress is good for a person, IMO.
They should put this guy in charge of GM & Chrysler.
As far as the 5 meters/ 3.6 seconds, that sounds close to the pace the UPS drivers have to walk, and they're union, so.... There could be a middle ground.
AND, I bet he doesn't have any 'wheezers' going out on obesity disability:rolleyes:

What's the big deal? I know lots of people that stand all day at their jobs, not like he's torturing them or anything. Wonder if conditions are better for the people that make most of the goods in China?

I think the point is that positive reinforcement in psychology has been shown as a superior form of reward for behavior than negative reinforcement, which is what we have above. Psychologists universally agree on this. So what this guy is doing is going the 'inferior' route in terms of increasing productivity.

For any Industrial Psychologist who has actually studied what improves worker productivity and efficiency: This idea is NOT in the top 5. No one is calling it torture....just a bit dumb or uninformed. I've worked with people and have a little background in this field and this is not a big morale or respect booster for your employees.

And some labor in China actually experiences better work conditions and a lot is much worse. Depends on the company and its policies.

Although I am no longer a working class guy I grew up among that class. And that's a class that's often taught to hate itself. And be grateful that 'anybody' would even care to employ it. I've seen workers treated like scum by Presidents and CEOs of former steel companies in the U.S. that made me cringe on how dismissive and condescending these guys could be of their 'men' in the plant. Like they were less than 'human'. Of course that's not true in all cases. But I've seen more than a few examples. It's not attractive.
