If you have a cable box with component or HDMI out, that pretty much all you need. If you want off-the-air (OTA) HD tuner, then Samsung DTH-B260F is probably one of the best (also has HDMI and component outputs). Hope this helps.

We most likely will not have a cable box, since we'll be sticking with the standard HD channels provided through direct coax hookup.

I did a search on the Samsung and I haven't found anything on that tuner.

+1 on the samsung 260! This is the one I have selected to be used with my PJ in the HT room once completed. My research led me to believe it is the one that will perform best.

Actually, the model number is DTB-H260F (just letters swapped around) which will help you to do the appropriate search on it. Here some feed back on this one from our Canadian site (digital home Canada). Only the pages that pertain to this specific one since the discussion is quite extensice; http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/search.php?searchid=3763995&pp=30

Much more leads/reviews for you right here; http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=DTB-H260F+us&meta=&aq=f&oq=

    Cheers :)

Most projectors wont have tuner built in since most people use AVR as switches. Just run your output into the receiver and you should be fine.

There are only a few options left at this point, within reason.

    - The samsung DTB-H260F, most likely found on ebay(wouldn't worry about buying used, since there aren't any moving parts)

    - TiVo, although you would have to pay the monthly fee

    - Moxi (http://moxi.com/us/buy_now.html)

    - Contemporary research (http://www.crwww.com/232-ATSC.asp)
-commercial grade, and definitely pricey ($600+)

    - NEC tvbox (http://www.provantage.com/nec-display-solutions-tvbox~7NECJ037.htm)
-haven't tried this one, but would be worth a try-only outputs dvi though

    - Hook up a computer, and use an OTA tuner card/stick (my preference is a mac mini/eyetv combo)

    - DVD recorders with ATSC tuners built in (example: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0014F7Z94)

    - older direct tv hd receiver - just utilizes the ota tuner section of the box

    - these external boxes (Samsung tuners) have HDMI out for 720p/1080i video and 5.1 DD sound. The boxes also have optical output for sound and component output for HD video. Many OTA channels are 720p or 1080i HD.

This is for HD TV. I want to watch the SuperBowl, etc. in HD as big as possible!

Exactly.. I use my projector a lot during football season and for all the MMA/UFC fights. I use component switched through my receiver to the projector for TV.

Wow!! Who is your cable company? Comcast is getting rid of everything on the direct coax except for local channels, not in HD. You will soon need a cable box just to watch Sci-Fi, ESPN, etc. on extended basic. HD is another cost.

I do not have a specific model selected yet, but most likely 720p under 1000 dollars. Right now, I use the TV for playing games, watching movies, and for TV shows. It would be a waste to spend a lot of money on a PJ and only watch movies. I'd like to be able to throw up some sports at least on a 105" PJ screen.

Thanks for the tips! Much appreciated.

I have COX cable right now, soon Time Warner.

To get the HD feed, you have to get the HD tuner and also another package upgrade which is basically another 30 bucks/month, not worth it for the amount of TV I watch.

Thanks, I'll definitely pick one up. This option is cheaper because I now don't have to rent the DVR box from the cable company.

The room for the PJ will not just be specifically for home theater. Its a great room so we'll probably use it a lot for parties and sports games.

I used to own the Samsung DTB-H260F, and it seemed to have very good reception sensitivity.

My only real complaint was that channel switching was slightly slow.

Just monitor projector bulb usage. It becomes very addicting to watch TV that big and pristine. I have a smaller 20inch LCD monitor with inputs so that my kid can play his games or watch DVD's on that without using the projector bulb up......
