Radio performance tax???

I keep hearing commercials on a few FM radio stations mentioning a tax that's trying to be implented on FREE FM Stereo stations. It's not clear , to me, whether the stations will have to endure this or if the public will have to "contribute", too.
Anyone in the industry know anything or whether it's even so?
This is getting ridiculous.

Can't find anything with google. Haven't heard anything about it, but then I haven't listened to FM in at least 25 years.

Mac, you're using the OLD math! Try the NEW math, and it'll all work itself out.
No, really, it WILL!!!I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE! -
Don't worry about the math, you won't need to figure anything out. It will all be provided for you.>

What's the greed of record companies have to do the country's government?
They lost the battle with online downloading so I guess now they are going to attach FM stations to recoup revenue from somewhere. -
If they can stop free music, you'll have to buy it. That's the
goal. They love downloads, it's just the free, non-DRM stuff
they don't like. If we all just would download the $1 a song
compressed, DRM infested crap from them, they could pocket
all the profit. And it would stop all those nasty "hard copy"
music formats like records and CD's from being re-sold, traded,
and listened to in, GASP, CAR, HOME, OR NON_DRM DEVICE!
You should should have to buy a copy for the car, for the
house, and your MP3 player. And if you have a power glitch,
you'll just have to re-purchase your collection. Never mind the
damn fact that many of us have owned the same music on
LP, 8-track, CD, and SACD.
OR, they could get good artists to make good quality recordings.
And with reasonable pricing, sell quite a few copies. Yeah, right."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -
Yup, it's pretty sad. Atleast apple ditched the DRM crap so you don't have to pay extra for drm free music anymore.
