This may be somewhat basic, but I am going to utilize 5.1 sound as my room is too small for the full 7.1 setup. Question, do I utilize the speaker terminals for rear surround rather than those marked surround? Or does it even matter.

Thanks in advance for any advice. Just got my new receiver and speakers and will be hooking things up this weekend.

Use the surround outputs, and configure the 07 accordingly. Then the AVR will know it's 5.1 and output correctly to the surround outputs. If I'm not mistaken if you should play something with true 7.1 encoding it will send the rear surround info to your surrounds.

You can use the rear surrounds for zone 2 in another room if you wanted as well.

Thanks. Left to own devices I would have hooked my speakers up to the rear surround terminals on the avr.

TOOLFORLIFEFAN, congratulations on your 1000 post achievement.

I'm using FXi3 speakers for the surround. It would be difficult (not impossible) to install 2 additional speakers mid-wall. One of the walls has a fairly large window where a speaker would go. Beyond that, there is the need to route (and hide) the wiring. Like I said, difficult but not impossible. I may go that route in the near future. Right now I'm as happy as a pig in the mud with my setup. The new Pio SC-07 (replacing my Bose Lifestyle) is absolutely outstanding. I'm using RTA-8T's for the mains, a CSi 30 center and a PSW 450 sub. Blows away the Bose, it does.
