Jumping ship...

After all these years buying used speakers (with the exception of my Polk LSi15s), I am jumping ship. :eek:I ordered a pair of Magnepan 1.6QR speakers. I also have the opportunity to buy a pair of used Magnepan 3.6R for $2200. While i would love to own that, they are just too humongous for my room... standing 72x24x2 inches...

The 1.6QRs are 65x19x2" and is more compatible for my room. In order to get the Maggies, i have to get rid of either my lovely Sony SS-M9ES or Polk RTA-12Cs. And presently, it looks like the Sonys are the ones to go...

Since the Maggies are so inefficient (83db/watt), it also appears I will have to get a new amplifier as well...

The saga continues to find perfect sound...

    Congrats on the sailing the new speaker boat. I'm eyeing it myself. :p

    As for the power, if you just want brute watts, get a used Carver. I have one that outputs 600wpc into 4 ohms and will kick just about anythings butt. New and used B&K equipment is also pretty well priced for what you get.

    Just a couple Ideas for you with regards to amps... A very long time ago, I worked for Magnepan, back when the Tympani series was top of the line. I remember they were running some monster amps to drive them. I believe they may have been Threshold, or Levinsons... Congrats of the speakers!
