HA HA HA another emotiva Thread!!!
Should I replace my Onkyo 805 for UMC-1? From my understanding, it seems that emo umc-1 has more offer for video instead of audio. also no amp built in.
My neighbor is interested buying my onkyo and i thought id buy umc -1 or keep Onkyo ??
Need your opinion whether i shoud go for umc -1 or keep onkyo?

Everything should be replaced with Emotiva equipment...pre, power amp, speakers, DVD player, cables...all of it.
Go Emo or go Home.
Seriously though, I'd worry about getting speakers first. At least you'll be able to run the speakers off of the Onkyo. With the Emo you wouldn't be able to run the speakers until you also got an amp.
After you get the speakers and an amp, then I'd worry about whether to upgrade to a pre-pro.The nirvana inducer-

I'd wait until the product has been out for a while (or out at all!) before even considering it. Certainly no one can answer your question at this time.

Probably the worst brand name ever created for an audio company. Too late now.

from the Emotiva website:
To start any company, you first must have a name. That one word that says so much about who we are and what we do and for Dan there was only one that summed it all up EMOTIVA. The one word that translates to Emotion and signifies the passion put into every product we make. Thus Emotiva was born and that passion continues today. We are passionate about what we do and bring that passion to every aspect of who we are and how we do business. From the attention to detail in the design and manufacturing to our commitment to our customers. We believe in what we do - bringing you audiophile quality equipment at the best possible prices.Polk Audio Surround Bar 360

I am kind of in the same boat and I will definitely replace my 805 with the UMC1. The Onkyo has a few bugs which can drive me nut sometime but for now it stays. The UMC-1 has a very low profile, more HDMI inputs, and the Cirrus chipset has faster switching speed than the Onkyo. If these are what you looking for then go for it
Are you planing to sell your Onkyo soon? Because if you are not on their pre-order list then it is not likely that you can get one in June. Besides like other said you will need an amp first. -
As others have said too, I'd let it settle into the market for a while first. With a product like this it's almost inevitable that there are going to be bugs and problems with it initially. I'd give them a while to work those out, and see how the reliability is going to be.The nirvana inducer-

I expect, for no particular reason, that the UMC-1 will be at least good value for money, maybe great value. Nevertheless, as many others have suggested, I'd wait a bit. At least read the first wave of reviews on the Emo lounge. If they are Emotastic expressions of Emomania, then all will be well. But there's a chance the board will fill with complaints of bugginess, in which case you will have dodged a bullet.
And there's not much to lose by waiting. Or so it seems to me. -
lol. I think they only sell T-shirt and caps. But who knows if their loyal fans are willing to pay for it.

its just that i was figuring out my onkyo warranty will be over in 6 mos, and emo umc-1 warranty last 5 years... which is nice to know that id be covered with warranty for next 5 years... Just like your polk speakers.
Onkyo Customer service sucks from what i hear and would have to send to "repair" store that they would cover company warranty. Itd be nice to deal directly with manufacturer instead sending repairs to other shop.I am 100% BORN DEAF and No I am not kidding!

I wouldn't worry about that too much. The Onkyo's are pretty reliable. I've never really heard of any people having issues that necessitated sending them in for repair.
There have been a few bugs in some of their products(such as HDMI pass through in the 806), but nothing major that I've ever really heard of.
Their customer service isn't anything to write home about though, that's for sure. The one time I had to call Onkyo CS, the guy struck me as rather rude. He helped me solve my problem, but his attitude didn't seem to reflect well on the company. Perhaps he was just having a bad day or something like that...
Besides, you've got other things to worry about before you consider a pre-pro. Namely speakers and amplification. The pre-pro is going to be a useless hunk of metal without those things.I hate the word "Emotiva."Probably the worst brand name ever created for an audio company. Too late now.
Agreed 100%. The name Emotiva annoys me...Perhaps it's just from reading it 1000 times a day.:rolleyes:The nirvana inducer-

Audiophiles in skimpy costumes? There ought to be a forum rule to prohibit even thinking about such things. -
Onkyo 805 doesn't have much in the way of bugs except for video limitations. It handles HDMI pass through fine. And since most of us are running PS3s, Pannys, Pioneers, Sony, Samsung Blu-rays...I'm wondering what 'bugs' in particular you're referring to?
Slap a fan on the 805 and you're fine for a while....
