Looking to get a subwoofer for my parents now that I have located a surroundbar. I have been looking and they are on a bit of a budget. I was looking at this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882290034&nm_mc=AFC-Bensbargains&cm_mmc=AFC-Bensbargains-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA

How is this sub? Any suggestions on something better? Looking to stay under $200 if possible. Room is 12X15 on ceramic tile with wood panelling.

Thanks in advance,
Shawn

May want to look at the Dayton (Hsu designed) subs from Parts Express.

Supposed to be very good bang for the buck.

    * This guy has links to the 3 basic Dayton subs in his sticky on another forum: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=67&threadid=2099593&enterthread=y

That's cool RT...I also gave away a small sub recently to a friend whose friend had never heard a sub in use with an HT receiver.

That's one of the things that makes this place a community...when it 'works'!

    Shawn,

After all of the above is said and done and if you're still looking, I have a Paradigm PS-1000 that's in pretty good shape. I'll let it go for $175 plus shipping from 43220. There's a guy on AG selling his for a hundo more.

I've heard those Polk sub's. You get what you pay for...they are not great by any stretch of the means, but they are better than nothing. I may suggest looking at audiogon.com. It's an online auction site (Similar to Ebay but not as sleezy) where people sell used equipemnt. I got a great sub for 200 bucks shipped- Definitive Technology Prosub 800 - an 8" sub with 300 watts RMS power. You may find one that looks good, check out what it retails for, read some reviews. The guy wanted like 200 plus shipping, I offered him 200 including shipping and he agreed. Sometimes great deals can be found....I'm not sure of the subs mentioned here...once you read the reviews you may decide they are the right price. With a room that size, I would think you would need something at least 150 watts RMS or more to have a decent sound. Others may disagree.

I've had and currently have some Boston A. subs. And they're OK in that price range above at audiogon...probably a 200 watt BASH amp...good enough for HT for the price. The Energy I haven't heard.

A Polkie made one a while back out of a cardboard box and added an air hole:D
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.

I've got a low buck 10" Velodyne that sounds like a lot more $$$ than it cost. The newer model is probably very similar to mine. V'dyne makes some world class subs also, very expensive too. Just another possibility to consider.:)

I wasn't trying to smack talk Polk Sub's. Just saying, if you want a 120 dollar sub, no matter what brand, it will not blow you away. That's why I suggested looking on Audiogon because I felt you can get a decent bang for your buck and get something for 150-200 dollars that's a higher quality (Similar to what I did with my Def. Tech. sub).

The Boston Acoustic is model PV-500. I don't know if that's good or bad, not being a sub-guy.

I don't know the sub George lists above but here's an old crutchfield link with some info on that. It's certainly seems like it would be adequate for you purposes.
