California state split?

California: Breaking up is hard to do
California's budget problems are kind of like the boy who cried "wolf." Nobody pays attention anymore. Well, hardly anybody. A radical idea that would split California into four distinct states garnered some attention on the Buzz. Commenters chimed in with their thoughts. Some even suggested names including Calidormia (for the "bedroom communities and burbs all across the state") and Califarmia (for the huge agricultural regions). The commenter notes that Calinormia could make for a nice state, but, alas, normal doesn't exist out west. Experts argue that the proposal doesn't have a chance of working, but we say "never say never." This is the state the elected Conan the Destroyer, after all.

California= FUBAR!!! That whole state can E.S.& D. as far as I'm concerned.
Only 27% of registered voters came out to shutdown the proposed tax hikes. If that isn't the definition of apathy, I don't know what is.
They keep threatening to let all the sex offenders out of the prisons, and cut the police and fire dept.'s, but they want to keep funding for all the basket weaving classes, and scientific studies on the courtship habits of **** squirrels.

I say sell the whole state to China for $1, in exchange for eating our debt.
I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

This is one occasion where I'm all for apathy. Fortunately, the apathy was in large part shown by the sheeple who blindly followed the "Change to Socialism You Can Believe In" last November. Apparently, many of them didn't show up at last week's election to vote more welfare for themselves in the form of higher taxes for the people who actually work and produce in this state.

Instead of splitting California, it could just as easily merge with Mexico. Our economy is headed down the same path as theirs and we have enough of their citizens here already to make it a reality.

I love how everyone needs a scapegoat Germany needed the Jews The South blames the Blacks and now out west its easy to blame the MEXICANS. The truth yes illegal immigration is a problem but whats the cause, to many American owened businesses
are willing to hire if not out right recruit workers from South and Central America. If we start making it a felony to hire illegal's you would dramatically reduce the flow over our boarders. Lets start prosecuting the ones employing these people just remember
    supply leads to demand.

Wow that is some really twisted logic! First of all it wasn't the Germans it was the **** secondly it is illegal to hire illegal immigrants but the illegals NOT JUST MEXICANS have figured a way to skirt the system.

Having lived in California for thirty years before moving to Georgia to do some contract
work for Robins Air Force Base if seen companies hire illegals, save hundreds of thousands on labor and receive a small fine for the infraction. Not trying to argue just giving a different perspective on things.

California is an interesting mess. On the one hand there are tons of AFFLUENT communities more or less 'untouched' by the current economic mess--they can be on either side of the political continuum because economic reality is not a world they live 'in'. Then there are your typical American poor...and that includes the service workers, W-mart boys and girls, and well..add to the list--don't forget the 'unemployed'. Then there are LEGAL minorities, who are not very well-off either. And the illegal community--that's highly political so I'm not touching that issue.

All I can say, is I don't envy that state. You guys are a real mess...how could you ever 'agree' about anything!

I am, in a large part, an idealist .
-When I was younger, I would point at a problem and say: "There should be a law against that . . blah blah".
-With some additional thought and experience, I came to realize that the problem I was pointing at was often the product of the creation of a law . . . where once there were many that said: "There should be a law against that . . blah blah".

    Just a thought.

If illegal immigration was not wanted and needed, it would stop entirely.

We have enough laws. No politician has the guts to defend our constitution and enforce them.

I don't live in California, as a matter of fact I don't live in the United States at all but that doesn't stop me from having some compassion for those sufferring right now in California and other places as well. Mammoth debts don't happen over night and the reasons, I am sure, are much more complicated than these or those people are responsible.
Tough times have a tendency to bring out the best and worst in the human race. Its my hope that we will see more of the best in your citizens are they are able to band together and weather this economic storm.
Your country has overcame seemingly overwhelming adversity in the past and I am confident it will again.

I for one wish you all the best.

There're many reasons for the trouble California is in right now. What I see is a legislature that can't control their spending and have no idea how to get out of the mess we are in. Every politician is out to protect his/her own butt (of course) and not ready to bite the bullet to fix the problem. Until we can get people into the legislature and throughout the State government with any form of backbones, California will always be in financial troubles.

Btw, I work for the State government and in recent weeks, the boss has told us to "burn through" what's left of our budgets by the end of the fiscal year (June 30th). Even if it' pure waste of money. This kind of attitude is pervasive in the department I work in. It's quite sickening, actually.

It happens at the Fed level too. Where I work, every year we get 'sweep up' money that has to be burned, otherwise, budgets get lowered the next year. At least I try and get my boss to spend it one stuff that we really can use to improve the efficiency of how we do things.
