How can speaker placement be better?

Excuse the crudeness of this drawing, but this is basically the shape of my room. Speakers are up top(SDA1a's) and my couch in the back. Where is the best place to put them?

What are the dimensions of your room? What are measurements of the speakers from the back wall, the side walls, the distance between them and how far away is the sweet spot?Political Correctness'.........defined

dimensions are approx(not at home until sunday) 15x30 and speakers are about 3 feet from the back wall, with me about 12 feet from sweet spot.
-
also about 2-3 feet from sidewalls.

Ok, that's all wrong. Put the speakers on the long wall. Start at 6 feet apart, but no more than 8 feet and at least 3 feet from the side walls. 6 inches from the back wall should be ideal, but a half inch one way or the other will make a huge difference in the bass response. To close and the bass will be boomy. Your sweet spot will be the top of an equilateral triangle, but sometimes a bit further back works better. Say you have them 6 feet apart, start with sitting 6 feet away, then try 7, 8, 9....you'll know when you hit the right spot.
Oh yeah, no toe in.Political Correctness'.........defined

I see but I need specifics, so i can sound smarter when I have to explain it to someone.

Specifics? Just tell her that they were designed to be placed on the long wall.
Try it and you'll see what I'm talking about.Political Correctness'.........defined

So have they basically been sounding like garbage for the past couple months? I'm excited to get back next week and switch them around.

My room is 19' 8" X 11' 2". I have my 1.2 TLs on the long wall, 5' from each side wall, 8" from the back wall and 6' 6" apart. My sweet spot is 8' dead center of the middle of front baffle line. Perfect bass and perfect soundstage.

My first recommendation would be to look in your owner's manual and see if there were any specific instructions provided for your particular speaker system.
If not, you could try the Cardas Golden Ratio method: http://www.cardas.com/content.php?area=insights&content_id=26&pagestring=Room+Setup
Here are some insights from Rives Audio: http://rivesaudio.com/resources/listening_room/frame.html
I've also seen corner loading of a system (putting speakers centered around corner and putting listening position out in room on diagonal) for some difficult rooms at home audio shows.
Good Luck! -
The guidelines for SDA setup are as follows;
-no less than 3' from the side walls
-no less than 4' apart with 6' to 8' being ideal
-6" or more from the back wall depending on where the bass locks in tightly
-sweet spot is dead center of the distance between the speakers i.e., if the speakers are 6' apart then the sweet spot would start at 6' dead center from the imaginary line of the two baffles. The sweet spot would start at 6' but can continue back a few more feet.

That's all completely wrong for SDA's. Hearingimpared and I gave the perfect set up recommendations.Political Correctness'.........defined
