I need a new mower & I want to try a pure mulcher. Researching online it seems like the TORO Super Recycler models get the best reviews. My yard isn't too big...no longer than 35-40min from start to finish. Probably looking to spend $400-$600.

Any other one's to look at? I don't need self propelled, just a good mulcher. What are you guys using.

I bought Toro when my Craftsman died. I regret it. I liked the Craftsman way better. The Toro does the job, but it just doesn't feel right. Weird vibrations out of nothing, and if the grass is just a little high it won't have the balls to mulch it and I need to use the side discharge. I'd take a Craftsman over this one, but maybe I got a lemon.....

I will never buy anything but a Toro. Best mower on the market IMO! Of course I've only owned 2. The first one for over 20 years, the current one is 23 years old and still going strong.

Honda. If you can't get a Honda itself, get something with a Honda motor. I prefer the Honda mowers because they actually use a double blade setup so you get real fine grass clippings.

I have a craftsman, self propelled, never a problem, one pull start, even after winter on the first cut of the season.Honda's are a big step up,but also in coin.My yard is hilly, and getting tiresome with the push mower, maybe time to move up to a rider.Another option is to get the Bikini landscape company to come and cut your lawn while you sit in the shade sipping iced tea.Now there's a side buisness for Hooters girls. Can you imagine your neighbors looks? You'd be the mayor of your town in no time.

I bought a Toro Super Recycler to replace my Craftsman several years ago, and it was the best purchase I've ever made. If you can swing it, get a model with the "personal pace" system -- it works amazingly well.

I am renting a place with a real small patch of grass in the backyard and got a Black and decker Lawn Hog electric it has a cord and is kind of a pain in the **** but seems to mulch everything fine and not having to mess with gas or starting a mower is worth it!

Another Toro fan. Mine's only 3+ years old but works great, no problems. I second the suggestion to get a self-propelled one and the Toro personal-pace system works fine.

Either Honda, Deere or my personal favorite Lawn Boy. They all have had the best cut and mulch results with the Lawn Boy being the clear winner IME. Mine is still going strong after 15 or so years of faithful service.

The lawn Boy's and the Honda's provide the nicest cut lawn [end result] but don't ask me why, 'cause I don't know why.

If you go riding LM get wheelie bars, and wear a helmet. Cup holder is a nice option.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.

Another vote for the Toro. One pull and it starts right up everytime if it's well maintained.

Only other mower I will use other than a Toro is a Dixie Chopper with a trac vac in the fall. Makes for very easy leaf pickup. I picked up a chopper and trac vac used for $800.00 with very low hours. Guy was going out of business and needed money bad so I got them on the cheap. It now sits at my buddies house since he has 5+ acres to mow.

I probably shouldn't even post in this thread as I hate cutting grass, have very thin grass and cut it several times a season. I have the cheapest sub 100 dollar mower you could buy at a W-mart about 10 years ago. Never did ANY maintenance on it. Abuse the S..t out of it. Have, perhaps added some OIL once in 10 years and never sharpened the blade.

My friend...WD-40, wet the bottom, wet the blade and run for another year.

I'm still waiting for the bio-tech who splices a variety of grass that won't grow more than 1 1/2". And I will personally have a write in campaign for a Nobel Prize for that gal or fellow. Did I say I don't like grass? I've even considered astro-turf!
