It makes viewing in the dark easier on the eyes.

I use a few red LED strips which I don't believe are available any longer.

you can buy various colors led light at IKEA.com for about 40 or 50 bucks. It also can switch to few colors of your choice with switch. Worth it and i had plasma philips with built in lights it was awesome when on action mode, it flashes and follow tv's lights but tv blew up :( My panny dont have led light yet and i plan to install when i move to new home.

the advantage is, lights set your mood and visual better when in dark room without lamp lights. help your eyes better. PLUS IT LOOKS AWESOME!!

I tried one for a while but I never really grew to appreciate it. I found it a little distracting.

I guess I'm cheap....what I do is use a 10-15 watt bulb aimed at the wall behind the TV..no particular color...it just bounces off the beige wall and that does the trick...you can't get cheaper than that! All you need is an aim-able light source.

Though, I must admit I like Face's red above.
