Man, what a Hi-Fi scare.

I just received an e-mail from [a good friend of mine and fellow audiophile] John Price, the owner of Sound Systems here in Charlotte, NC. The e-mail was to inform everybody that they had lost their lease.

My stomach immediately fell to the floor

They are the only Hi-Fi shop here in Charlotte and I know of no other shop within many, many miles around Charlotte. I immediately called them and to my surprise? They are not closing up shop!!!!

Kuul, kuul, kuul!!! :D I have been worried about the sustainability of the mom and pop Hi-Fi shops and Hi-Fi shops in general since Dec. of '07, especially considering that 15 years ago we had 3 or 4 Hi-end shops here in Charlotte.

All of those losses were due to the HT market share bringing the decline of Hi-Fi and 2 channel shops profitability and we all know what happened to CC and Tweeter [though I would never consider them Hi-Fi]. John and Sound Systems is the only one that is still alive and kicking. I pray that his shop can make it through this economy because it is hard enough on Hi-Fi shops as it is.

I'm just glad to hear that they are NOT closing up shop and I still have at lest one Hi-Fi shop to enjoy without having to drive across the state or to another state. Oh, and I have absolutely no affiliation with them at all but if you happen to be in Charlotte or passing by...stop in. He's got a plethora of gear, stands and TV's on sale right now at the lowest prices I've ever seen them at.

*dances because they aren't closing* :D:D:D:D

Not too far away in Asheville, Boone and Lake Toxaway is a pretty decent company...Audio Inc. It has been a couple of years since I visited their Asheville and Boone stores but they always carried some nice gear.

Oooooooooooooo, that's sweet! I'll be up in that area in September. Thanks! I'll have to check them out. Do you have any that you would recommend on the other side of the Shenandoah?

If you are in the Roanoke, VA area:

    http://www.uptownaudio.com

Again it has been a couple of years since I was there...but they carry some very cool gear as well.

They used to be in the center of Roanoke, but looks like they have moved a few miles down the road to Salem (and probably easier to get to from I-81).

I have GOT to take a road trip to uptown audio. Holy-Moly they have a lot of nice gear. Looks like I'll have to make a Saturday out of it and bring some of my favorite discs. Thanks again Shack Daddy. You da' man!

I don't know what the price point for HI-FI is, but there's a dealer in Columbia, Upstairs Audio, and they carry Def-Tech, Totems, and Maggies. The other dealer, Sound Advice carries Paradigm, and...? (I can't remember). Although I REALLY don't like Sound Advice.
The A-hole there kept trashing Polk.

Yep, I purchased my DT BP6B from them many moons ago.

To this day, right along with the Polk Audio RTi70 - two of my worst purchases ever. I regret the Polk one alot more than the DT one. But all the same...

Now I have not been back to Sound Systems since that day - but as I recall the guys there were pretty ignorant to internet brands like SVS (but this was years ago) and they swore till blue in the face what they offered was some of the best...

But I did get to hear Mcintosh for the first time there...
