Polk eBay Store

Hi,

I have a question about the Polk Direct eBay Store:

In the listings it states, "Factory refurbished products are returned (or open box returned) product that have been refurbished and certified by Polk Audio to match Polk’s performance, functionality, and reliability standards of new product. Refurbished products may have minor cosmetics blemishes and/or imperfections."

To what extent are these "imperfections"? I once bought an Onkyo receiver and it said "minor cosmetic blemishes," however it had a decent sized scratch across the faceplate that made it look bad.

So are these blemishes not very noticeable or are they significant? I don't know if I should go with new or Polk Direct refurbished speakers.

bought couple of car audio stuff, and ipod dock, except if you find a sticker on the box which says refurb if at all if you find one, its as good as new.
And ofcourse the warranty differs little bit.

Am sure very rarely we may get a real refurb, most of the times think these are Customer returns or open box

As did my 2 CSiA6's....the grills had some issues non related to their refurb status, and Polk customer service sent me 2 brand new grills no questions asked.

Hey bub [long time, no talk to], you can look at it this way. If you want brand spankin' new? Pay for the new price. If you are willing to take a little gamble that you will get a NIB [but opened] unit or a possible scratch on the front, top, rear or bottom of the unit? Take the lower price.

It's more of a hit or miss situation with refurbs IME. Good luck with whatever decision you make and happy listening.

Appadv, If you arent satisifed, you always can return it and exchange for another unit. It would be nice if POLK Ebay store do not charge Shipment in US.

for example.... some online retailer dont charge for shipping. this is not accurate price but just saying...

    Rti a7 at somewhere.com for 300 single with free shipping X 2 = $600 for pair even

Polk ebay 550 (not exact price, just example) for refurb pair + 100 dollars shipping = 650 for refrub

which would you want buy NEW for less or REfrub for more?

The speakers I am looking at don't weigh much, so shipping would be negligible.

Go through Polk Direct or call them and ask about a refurb + their CS is the best, and you will have the warranty. my guess is you will be pleasantly surprised with the refurb.

I bought a pair of FXi A4 from Polk Audio Direct.... Not a single mark on the speakers. You could tell that the box had been opened, but there wasn't a single finger print on those speakers. I would TOTALLY buy from them again!

Do it, they have warranty in case you are not happy with the product.

I concur..but would like to add, that I bought an Onkyo Receiver a while back from Onkyo direct. It was a refurb and it was flawless! Not ONE scratch. Everything looked brand new, the remote the front-plate, and the internals were SHINY NO DUST ANYWHERE inside the unit. I REALLY couldn't tell it apart from the original. MINT. And it's been running for months flawlessly! Price was ridiculous because it was greatly discounted with free shipping and I had Onkyo points (about 50 dollars toward the purchase in addition to the discount). A steal....literally!

FYI,seems like prices have been changing recently. Auction products were limited until yesterday. Appears Lsi 15 and 25 have gone up in price. Lsi 7 have come back down but not as low as a month ago. Maybe someone new is in charge of Polk Direct website. In this economy, hard to understand why prices would go up. Flat rate shipping charges and no pickup for local buyers still exist and add to actual cost. You have to add $115 to price for Lsi 15's unless the recent price increase eliminates shipping costs. Tax is what it is but if Polk would work with customers regarding shipping charges I am sure they would increase their sales. Compared to new, still an ok deal. Believe Frys has reduced price for new fyi. Good luck whatever way you go.

Just got a set of Lsi9s today in the mail on ebay from Polk Direct. (refurbs) Haven't opened them yet but I'll let you know how they sound/appear.

Regarding refurbs, it could be argued they are better than new. When a company makes a product, X% of the final products will be faulty. Also, most products are computer tested and not by a human.

When dealing with refurbs, each product is tested by a human and any faults are repaired so you are guaranteed the product will work. Especially if dealing with Polk. I've had to get my tweeters replaced for my SR6500s and there customer service was amazing. No complaints. I have confidence Polk will not screw me on the new Lsi's.

I guess the only downside is that you don't know how used the product is and the warranty is less.

A trusted name such as POLK AUDIO would not sell any product directly to the consumer that is not fair and reasonable. No sense to ruin its reputation for a sale.
And if there was any concern you know and will have confidence that POLK Customer Service will help.

I've made several purchases from Polk 's e-bay store....my LSI-15's were like brand spanking new, they even had that new speaker smell. I know they wern't used before because they needed to be broken in...

I wouln't hesitate to buy from them again, the only downside is the shipping and having to pay Sales Tax......

Just wanted to back this one as well. Ordered a pair of RtiA1s and a CSiA6 separately about 8 months ago. Both arrived in flawless condition (not a single mark) and have continued to perform just as new items would.

Yeah, I saw that. How much was shipping? Aren't they like fifty pounds a piece? The box I got today was 66 lbs. and that's just two bookshelves. lol
