System details
Receiver: Yamaha HTR 5830
Mains: Polk RT600i frequency response (-3db 45hz - 25khz)
Center: Polk CSi5
Rears: Polk Fxi 3
Sub 1: Polk PSW 350 frequency response (10" front firing) (-3db 38hz - 160hz)
Sub 2: Yamaha YST-SW 215 frequency response (8" down firing) (-3db 50hz - 110hz)
Important detail : SMALL ROOM (~12 X ~20)
Im not a bass head, but I like the rumble from movies and the fuller sound of music with the subs
I have the basic setup taken care of as far as DVD/Cable to tuner, tuner to TV, phasing, , etc. The main questions I have left are related to bass setup
1. Should I set front speakers to small? The 600s have a frequency response (-3db) down to 45Hz but with only one driver I figured it would help clear up the mids by setting them to small (this cuts everything below 90Hz on the 5830) plus with both subs I shouldn't need them at large? Right?
2. Where should I setup the two subs in the room. Front of the room, opposite sides of the room. I saw a forum that mentioned stacking them on top of each other? Does stacking still work if one is down firing? Can I lay the Yamaha on its side to stack ? If I stack where in the room should they be placed?
3. How do I hookup the subs. I figure I have 3 options
Option A: Y connector - both subs get same signal from receiver (LFE output of 5.1 plus anything below 90Hz sent over from the 5 mains that are set at small setting) set PSW variable crossover ~50 and SW215 ~100 (SW215 would still get all of the signal below 50)
Option B: PSW on the LFE channel, SW215 hooked up through the fronts, with the variable crossover set ~ 90 -105 Hz
Option C: PSW 350 hooked up from the LFE on Receiver to the Unfiltered input ,then the Yamaha sub hookup to the output of the PSW350. Set the cutoff on the Yamaha as high as I wanted (probably ~110Hz, (it is already top end filtered by the receiver), set the cutoff on the PSW350 ~60? This would put the main speakers as 90Hz and up, the Yamaha from 60Hz-110Hz, and the PSW from 38Hz to 60Hz.
Option A seems way to easy and cant really be ideal, the SW215 would have a large range for a small speaker.
Option B seems like it wouldn't be taking advantage of both subs
Would option C provide a "cleaner" bass by dedicating certain frequency ranges to each sub?

I would set the subs to 80hz and the mains to 80hz. You can use a y adapter to run both subs. You may consider running just the Polk. The Yami doesn't run that low and with room gain you may have an upper bass bump.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

Use to have the PSW 350 and a 404 stacked. Great for Music. But didnt give the rumble for movies for my taste at the time. But given the size of your room, id just split using a Y cable and stack the subs in a corner set everything to 80 as stated prev and call it a day. Not sure how the response will be on a downfiring and a front firing. Just tweak it to your taste and enjoy.
