LSI and Sub follow up

Hello all,
Previously I posted a query regarding using a sub with Lsi25s. My concern was that the sub might be redundant given the two 10" sub in the Lsi25s and my primary interest is music. Well, I've been playing around and wanted to share my experience thus far and possibly cmpare notes.
Connections/Settings:
1) I have the Lsi25s set to full-range.
2) Fom each L/R pre-out on my Onk I have a Y cable (1M2F).
3) Each Y cables sends a signal to my amp and to my sub.
4) The Lsi25's are connected using a single speaker wire (no bi-amping or bi-wiring). I have the crossover set at about 80-85 and the sub volume about one third of the way.
5) The sub is connected using the line level inputs mentioned above. I have set the crossover on the sub itself to 50. The volume is about 30.
As I mentioned above, my primary interest is music and this set-up allows me to utilize the sub when running the Onk in "pure audio" mode. Since I prefer the DACs and upsampling in my CDP, I do not want to run standard "stereo" mode (in stereo mode the Onk seems to take the analog signal and converts it to digital and then back to analog).
The upshot is that, in my opinion, the sub definitely complements the LSi25s and is not redundant as long as the crossover is set fairly low. It also seems important to keep the volume on the sub fairly low or else the bass is overwhelming. My sub has a remote so it is easy to flip it on and off to see what it is doing. I can hear low notes that I did not even know were there. For exampe, I never thought of Natalie Merchant songs as having much base. The base it there, but hard to notice with the Lsi25s alone.
Having said all that, I am not sure that I would run out to buy a sub if I didn't have one. Nor would I bother with a lower end thump box. However, I can say with certainty that the sub is not redundant even with two-channel.
Has anyone out there tried a similar set-up? If so, I like to know your thoughts.

My buddy runs his sub sometimes with his amazings with the XO down as low as it can go(50hz) to help solidify the bass. It it is not turned up to much and matched to his mains. It works well with some material.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong...
If you have the Lsi25's Xovered at 80 and the sub at 50 then what happened to the 50-80 range of frq.? Will this create a null spot in the fre range?
I would xover the sub at 100 or closer to the 80hz.HT:

The crossover on the Velo is 50, so it starts to taper off at frequencies above that. As for the Lsi's, there are two crossover. The crossovers for the drivers is set by the factory at 80 (they cannot be changed), meaning that they start to taper off below 80. However, the crossovers for the Lsi25s that I was referring to was the crossover on the powered sub woofer. I have set it at about 80-85, so that it begins to taper off above that.
The problem is actually not a "hole" but trying to avoid bass "humps," (my non-technical term) where both subwoofers are kicking out too much of the same frequency. That is why I have the volume fairly low. Otherwise the sound is boomy.MAIN: Polk Lsi9s; Polk PSW505; Lsic (in box); Onkyo SR-875; Parasound 2250; Cambridge Audio 740C; LG BD370

Glad to hear some others do this. If I were the only one, there is a good chance that it is a bad idea.MAIN: Polk Lsi9s; Polk PSW505; Lsic (in box); Onkyo SR-875; Parasound 2250; Cambridge Audio 740C; LG BD370

That Velo is one NICE sub...I'm not surprised it adds some to the LSIs own subs.

I just did this same same thing yesterday with the same results. I was running my Tyler Acoustics with the bass modules which is considered a full range speaker and just for kicks I integrated my 15" velo into the mix and crossed it over at 34 Hz!
The result was that it added more low end extension and gave music (with low bass information) a more tactile experience. Perhaps this would be overkill for some, but since I LOVE bass, I'm in hog heaven! I really like listening to Powerful classical music works, so the sub adds more dimension to songs like Copland's "Fanfare for the common man." -
CNH, I'm very happy with it. The remote and auto eq are cool features. Never thought the remote would come in handy but with my present set-up it is nice to be able to turn it off if the base is not needed or desired. The piano glass was a big plus for the GF.
Ern, Thanks for the feedback. I might try running mine a little further down, but 40 is the lowest crossover on the 1200.MAIN: Polk Lsi9s; Polk PSW505; Lsic (in box); Onkyo SR-875; Parasound 2250; Cambridge Audio 740C; LG BD370
