Engery(s) are nice speakers. My first set of bookshelf speakers were a subsid. of Energy in the 80s. I remember demoing everything in the 200-350 dollar range. The Energies held their own and then some...that was also my first experience in hearing the shortcomings of the much hyped Bose 300 series back then. They just didn't have the 'detail'!

I still have those babies in a small sitting room...but alas, the foams on the 6" polypropylene woofers are starting to turn to dust and I'm not sure how to get them out because there flush against the baffle with no screw mounts showing?

The RC series may just be the last serious hi-fi speakers made by Energy. I have a feeling Energy's parent company, Klipsch, will eventually run the company into the ground.

I've got a set of the RC-10s that I love! In comparison to my LSi9's I actually slightly prefer the Energy's.

I couldn't resist. I didn't need to spend the money, but the temptation was too much. I ordered a pair of RC50's a couple of days ago. So I guess when they get here, I'll set'em up next to the LSi9's and let'em have a go at each other. May the best speaker win. The loser will go on the block.

Klipsch certainly didn't do anything with or for the Acurus and Aragon brands. Hopefully, Energy will continue to prosper. Have they dropped the Veritas line already? That would not be a good sign, imo.

This is just my observation....Klipsch is doing away the more expensive offerings of both Energy and Mirage, so that its own expensive Klipsch can get the spotlight. See last month's "Stereophile" cover for proof.

OK, so we know Klipsch has all but abandoned Energy, at least the good stuff. The important question is, are these before or after the Klipsch takeover, as in, are these any good?

This might be adding fuel to the fire, but it seems like the new Veristas is more of a replacement for the midline stuff like the RC series.

I don't think that Klipsch is buying speaker companies with the intention of running them into the ground though. I think they, like many other companies, are holding off on expensive stuff right now because people aren't shopping like they were a few years ago. Def Tech also released a bunch of updates, and the only real changes were smaller and more affordable versions of their super towers. It seems to be a common theme right now.

On the other hand, Klipsch dropped Athena Tech after its purchase of API. For the longest time, both Energy and Mirage were kinda wandering in the market place. Still no new stuff from Mirage. I'm thinking both Energy and Mirage will eventually be run into the ground or just be Klipsch's low end brands. However, Klipsch will benefit from gaining the rights to technical knowledge of API, such as the patented surround for its drivers (API won court challenges from Bob Carver/Sunfire).

+1, the new Veritas looks like an update of the RC and the C series before it! As for the Vann's deal. Those are pretty good prices on a decent set of speakers. The RC-series sounds fairly controlled, images well, has good bass, nice high end detail with almost no harshness and plays well with most amplification due to their 8 ohm/high efficiency rating. Get'um while you can! The aluminum dome is 'surprisingly' smooth for a metal dome?

8 ohms nominal impedance, 4 ohms minimum impedance
    91db sensitivity.

Those are about par for the course. Not terribly efficient, not terribly inefficient. 4-8 ohms would be about average too..nothing special.

I don't disagree. What I meant to say was that I've heard these speakers powered by a wide variety of AVRs and they NEVER sound bad. In other words they seem to like most receivers and play loud enough. And 91db isn't bad at all. Horns are, of course, more efficient.

So essentially, the elusive synergy is not so elusive in this case.
