a pair of monitor 7s for $55. had to drive an hour for them. Gotta love craigslist. Called the guy(he had a pair of Boston acoustics in the same add) He said he would take $60 for them(original owner). I went to take a listen, and before he hooked them up I knew one of them had a problem the driver sounded raspy when I lightly pushed on it. He said he would go no lower than 55 so I bit the bullet. So now I just have to wait for the fundage to pick up a 6501 and slap it in the cabinet. Now my next dilemma will be to use them as surrounds with my sdas or start a bedroom rig. Oh well, in my eyes the 55 was well spent even if I have to use one of them as a center:). No stands, I can always build them later.

later,
dude

Nice grab! The 7's are some excellent sounding speakers. I love my 7A's.

Just FYI, the 7's use the MW6502's. My 7A's do anyway, and I'm pretty sure all of the other versions of the 7's do as well.

Try this, the driver that sounds raspy, take it out rotate it 180 and screw it back in to place and have a listen and medium to low volumes for a while, if the raspyness is gone give it a little more voulume. Sometime gravity pulls on the driver till the voice coil is just slightly out of center and rotating the driver will correct the effects of said gravity.
    Good Luck.

Yep...I got my 7A's for 20 bucks. They're in great shape too!

Always check out local auctions, you never know what you'll find there.;)

Interesting...I thought all of the M7's had the 6502's.

That leads me to believe that those aren't the original MW's. Those appear to be 7C's, which weren't in production in 1988. IIRC they stopped production on the 7C's in 1979. Does the other MW's model # and date match the one you pulled?

well I pulled the driver from the other one and the model number is smeared but, it does say it is for the monitor 7. The non-working one does not have a check box for the monitor 7. so It most likely is not for the speaker. I know the original owner did not replace it, he was clueless about the internal workings, or he was just playing dumb.

well, last night I hooked this puppy up as a center for **** and grins and all I can say is wow. If this thing was magnetically shielded it would be on top of the TV. I knew that having a voice matched center would be better than the cheap panny I have there now. OMG I think I creamed my jeans. I was only watching TV in PLIIx and it was awesome. Can not wait to hear a dd track through them, oh yeah, I did have it set to large. Now I just need to come across an awesome deal on a mw 6502 as I can not order one right now, I should not have even spent the coin on these, but you know how it goes( and the misses told me too.) after I get the mw 6502 I will be on the hunt for m 5jr for a dual center set up, then have to get bucking magnet for them. Then a few amps to power it all, a bd player, and a pre/pre to replace the the denon AVR( which would then go for the bed room ht, but don't tell the wifey.

    later all,
    dude

Good to hear you're enjoying it! The M7's certainly are some awesome sounding speakers. I doubt I'll ever get rid of mine.

Gotta love that faux wood vinyl. Makes everything it was ever put on look dated. My 7's also have it(which I purchased for 50) and I would like to veneer them in something a little richer.

    x2

I'm eventually going to re-veneer my 7's with some real wood veneer. I don't know what kind yet. That's not very high on my list of upgrades right now...lol It'll happen eventually though. They'd look a lot better with some real wood instead of the cheap vinyl.

Another CL Monitor 7 buyer here! Mine were $40. They sound incredible IMO... outperform most any speaker many times their price. Good snag.

nice. I got my SDA2as for free. Just wish some one had a mw6502 they could part with. Polk does have them in stock, I just can't swing the coin right now, lost me job not too long ago. Crap, I still have to find an amp. Gotta pre, and an AVR with pre outs. Really miss having separate amplification.
