Unknown singers/bands that you would recommend

I thought that since there are so many unsigned artists out there, this would be a great way to find some new music to listen to. Since we at CP come here from all over the world, what a better place to find some great new tunes. So, who do you have hiding up your sleeve?
What got me started on this is that I stumbled upon this woman singing on Youtube. All I can say is, WOW. Really good for someone who is self taught and that has no formal vocal training. Just some great raw talent.Enjoy.

Take a look / listen to 'Playing for Change'. I listen to NPR alot and get some great reviews and suggestions on new to me music. The other week I listened as they talked about the Playing for Change colaboration.
Playing for Change is a DVD / CD of different street musicians from around the world. They have colaborated on different songs while NOT being brought all together. It begins with a single street musician playing a song. He wears NO headphones. As other musicians join in you'll notice most wear headphones to hear the first musician and their singing/playing is added to the song. From a single singer/guitar player it goes to an added singer to another, to another guitar added, to a drummer, to a violinist, to a chello player, then a band of indians join in with tribal drums, then another group of singers and so on and on and on. Of course since this is a colaboration of musicians from around the world and the proceeds go to a good cause Bono / U2 makes a cameo on the tracks here and there.
The work is engineered rather well and the songs are familiar. I'll add a link to a sample but the videos doesn't do justice to the produced work you'll find on the DVD / CD. Keep in mind all these musicians are just street performers and no studio work was done on this other than the mastering and engineering for production.

I am a big fan of David (pronounced dahveed) Garza (www.davidgarza.com). I think he is not that well known outside of TX or CA.
