Ok guys, some of you remember that I got a Music Hall MMF 5.1 a few months back. Yes I love the sound. Absolutely incredible.
Here is why I can't really get into vinyl. When I listen to my rig, I like to do it with the lights out, my eyes closed and my body/mind in a very relaxed state, and I get into my zen mode. These are late night sessions. There were times when I fell asleep. One time I fell asleep while an LP was playing. So the needle was on the groove at the end with the record still spinning for 2 hrs:eek:
Also, ALL my "chill" music are on cd. 99% of them are not on lp.
Ever since I got my RT1000's, I've been able to enjoy cd's again. Yes, you guys know how much I love these speakers:). Even though I'm spinning cd's, these speakers make me enjoy music and my rig more than ever.
So I'm thinking of a cdp upgrade to take me to the next level. I don't care if it won't sound as good as records as long as it is the "next level" compared to my current one.
Any recommendations? Please, none of those $10k players. Can I reach the next level in the 2-3k range of cdp's? NAIM's cheapest looks interesting. PRaT is very important to me.
Thanks

Get a solid DAC. That has made the most difference in my system.
BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

I agree. You can acheive what you want for a lot less. -
Polk Guru's
what record player were you using before you went to the DAC and CD/DVD player? -
Ayre 7e or Sony SCD-XA5400es.
I have the Sony 5400ES, and it is great for SACDs. At this time I think the Benchmark DAC1 has a slight edge on the Sony for regular CD playback using the 5400ES as the transport. If the CD is a great recording then the Sony sounds better, but CDs that are not optimum, sound a bit harsh on the Sony, and much better through the DAC1.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes
Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables
Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
Three 20 amp circuits. -
The Rotel 1072 is a good player at a good price.Linn AV5140 fronts
Linn AV5120 Center
Linn AV5140 Rears
M&K MX-70 Sub for Music
Odyssey Mono-Blocs
SVS Ultra-13 Gloss Black:D -
Raysonic CD 168. It is a tube player and will give you that vinyl sound.

THanks for the suggestions, guys. I thought about it, and I think trying an external DAC first is better for my wallet.
If the external DAC doesn't cut it for me, I will start looking at the cdp units you guys mentioned.
I'm going to try the Audio Zone DAC. That is because I love the sound of their pre and amps. I brought a bunch of equipments to the shop. When they sell, I will use the cash as store credit and get the DAC. Hope somebody buys them soon. -
I'm going to try the Audio Zone DAC.
I knew you were going to say that. Can't say I blame you. I've been eye-balling them for awhile now. There's one on Audiogon that just popped up today for $750! -
LOL:D I like their stuff so much. Also, I can get a very good deal on it.
I just hope it's a step up from my Rega. Your Bada is an excellent player. It sounds killer with upsample.
