Anyone ever watch the Top Gear show on BBC America? I watched my first episode tonight and I have to admit its funny as hell :D

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

I watch it every chance I get. I also have downloaded a lot of episodes and watch them on the computer. I think it is probably the best car show ever on TV.

    THE STIG :D

I watch it pretty regular...loved when they tried to beat The Stig across a local finish line in a kit car they hobbled together ... as The Stig had to start hundreds of miles away. That poor kit car....

If you want to see every episode from series 1 episode 1 to series 12 episode 8 as they originally aired on the BBC, go to www.mininova.org, they have torrents of every episode available. Another good resource is www.finalgear.com, they have links to the shows and countdown timers to the coming season. By the way, the downloads on mininova are usually Divx encoded, which works out good for me because my Blu Ray player plays them natively.

One of my fave's. The cool thing is they have nice cars, etc......but they never take things to seriously. I hope that show lives on forever. Just the right balance of entertainment, wit, and information.

Agreed an all around great show. I rarely watch TV and if I do have it on its usually on a music channel for background music but I happened to be surfing through the channels when a scene of a black Bentley caught my eye so I watched the rest of the show and was pleasantly surprised at how well put together the show was.

My favorites are probably the road trip episodes. The Vietnam one, or the one in Southern US, were fantastic. I love how the guys eff with each other.

Thats the one where they each bought a motorcycle for 15 million dongs (about $1,000 US). Funny stuff.

The thing that frustrates me about the show, is that since it airs in the UK, they have the internet rights to it. On the BBC website, there is a place where you can stream the show just like on our network channels, but you have to have a UK IP address in order to use it. Crappy...

even when they bag on current year mustangs, do comparisons saying a car is a mustang gt when its actually the 6 cyl model (when they raced the horse with it)

even with them talking smack about my car, I still love that show

Thing is Lou, they don't discriminate............they'll talk smack about ANY car brand or model. They surely don't get much of their funding from advertisers who expect a compliment about their product every other show.

If you want to watch TopGear, Fifth Gear or any of the other versions from Australia, Russia and so on, it's simple.

    Download this: http://www.utorrent.com/

Learn how to use it here: http://www.utorrent.com/documentation/

Then go here and watch for updates: http://www.finalgear.com/

You get HD quality video with no UK or Australian affiliation required.

I have cataloged and archived every season of Top Gear, even some of the shows from the first run when Clarkson was just a TV journalist and not the executive produced.

And if you're waiting for the BBC to air shows, last I checked, BBC America was at least 2 seasons behind.

Oh and, BTW, the shows aired on BBC America have been drastically edited to fit the advertising template here and to edit content that they think would offend U.S. views. So the BBC America version isn't the whole deal and that kinda sucks because you miss out on alot.

your definitly right there, and it's one of the things I like about the show....the shear honesty.

sometimes there off on facts, like the Mustang GT / 6 cyl thing with the horse race. they also compared a Shelby gt500 to a Rousch GT and said they liked the other because it handled better with the "independent rear suspension" ........ problem is, it has a solid axle just like the GT500 and my car, just with better suspension parts (hence the better handling). It was an awesome handling car despite the axle (hence an axle, while certainly dated, can handle damn well if done right), but either they neglected to recognize it, or just didnt want to.

they lose it on some details, especially with american cars. that said, I still like to watch the smarmy **** :D

I have every episode of both the original (80's, early 90's) and the current format show. I'm a Top Gear nut. Even my GF likes watching it! The challenges have always been great, especially the cheap car challenges. How much fun must their jobs be???

Anyone see Clarkson's Insight review (print)?
    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/driving/jeremy_clarkson/article6294116.ece?print=yes&randnum=1242604714984

"So here goes. It’s terrible. Biblically terrible. Possibly the worst new car money can buy. It’s the first car I’ve ever considered crashing into a tree, on purpose, so I didn’t have to drive it any more."

"....And the sound is worse. The Honda’s petrol engine is a much-shaved, built-for-economy, low-friction 1.3 that, at full chat, makes a noise worse than someone else’s crying baby on an airliner. It’s worse than the sound of your parachute failing to open. Really, to get an idea of how awful it is, you’d have to sit a dog on a ham slicer."

    Hilarious.

Well I downloaded the Vietnam bike trip via the bit torrent thing and watched that tonight. That was quite a trip for sure, the traffic in Saigon looked pretty hellish allright, did anyone notice the motorcylists were all under the age of 30 there? I think thats because thats your maximum life expectancy if your riding a bike there :D

All in all a great show, thanks for reccomending it.

I watch a number of things on BBC but I've never even heard of this. But then again...I'm getting to old to think much about cars. If it moves and its reliable I drive it. That's why I'm now in the safest insurable age bracket...over 50, married with kids and a home.

But I know it's a big hobby for a lot of people so that's cool.

While the show is about cars, the cars aren't the best part of it, it's the hosts.

I find it hard to believe that you watch anything on BBC and have never seen at least an ad for Top Gear. It's one of the most watched shows on the PLANET - they estimate a quarter BILLION people watch it worldwide.

    Thanks bobman,

I may track it down....it's seems like it might be a bit like listening to Cartalk on NPR! I don't really listen for the auto stuff that much but because the T-brothers are such a lark, and they're from my part of N.England.

The best episode I've seen so far, was the one where they were taking the American MUSCLE cars to the Bonneville salt flats:D
One of the hosts was BITCHING about driving a Cadillac CTS-V(IIRC), and was complaining about the car....UNTIL, he got to the windy mountain roads of CA. Then he was happy:p
Too bad a Mustang didn't make an appearence in that show. It would have been nice to see all 3 US flagged cars represented, but 2/3 was nice.

I think the F-150 Lightning episode, might have had something to do with it,

The Vietnam one was great! Been there many times and heading there again this June. Gonna record video while there, the traffic is among the hardest to navigate in the world. I completely enjoyed that episode from start to finish. A beautiful country.

They seem to have a hatred of American cars, minus the ZR-1 and CTS-V. Still a great show none the less.
