iTunes question

I currently have two 250GB HD's in my computer, one with XP Pro, the other running W7 64-bit (which I love, btw). What I want to do is add a 1TB HD for all my media.
I'd like to run iTunes in both OS's and have both instances reference the same iTunes library folder on the 1TB HD. If I were just using iTunes to play back CD's I've ripped to my computer, I have no doubt that would work. However, if I've downloaded songs from iTunes, would both instances (one on each OS) be able to reference the same folder on my 1TB HD?
Thanks!!

Should be fine as long as your "library" is also stored on that drive. itunes keeps some separate metadata about the songs in the library location, independent of the actual music files.

Ok, just a question, and I am not trying to hijack your thread but why itunes? Obviously you must have an apple product, but there are better programs out there to run all of your media. I understand using it for your music and video install on your IPOD, but why not use something like WinAmp for your everyday use?
And what you looking to do should work fine. Glad to see you really like W7, I am really looking forward to it's release. -
Thanks for the input, unc2701.
avelanchefan - You're right, there are lots better programs. I was all into using EAC, lame, foobar2k, etc for quite a while, and just got tired of fooling with all of it and started using just iTunes (I have three iPods). However, once I get my 1TB HD, I'll have enough room to rip CD's in .WAV format again, so I'll probably go back to using iTunes for just syncing. We'll see though.

I've never found a way to make iTunes put its library file on a different drive. I know how to make it store MUSIC on a different drive, but moving the library file (in particular having it on a shared drive) might be a little trickier. If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I don't know how much music you have or plan to have but when I run iTunes it is very frustrating I have over 80,000 songs and it will bog down iTunes during a search.Mitsubishi WD-73736

Why rip to .WAV? Why not a lossless format like ALAC or FLAC? It's like getting double the hard drive space, plus tagging.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance. -
I just purchased a 500MB USB drive for iTunes and need to go through the move exercise. I thought your link was just the thing needed, some instructions. Rather these guys make a freaking movie on how to do it instead of just printing the steps. This is a great example of people not understanding the Internet and web technologies and who think everything has to be flashy to appeal to the masses.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

I use Exact Audio Copy to rip and convert to flac.
Tags are bits of information that you can attach to the song file that players can read, so they can tell Artist, Album, Song Title, Track Number, etc.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance. -

Thanks so much for posting that! That's awesome, and exactly what I needed! I can't wait to order my HD now.
iTunes is usually fairly laggy for me, though if I remember correctly, I think I only have about 6,000 songs on it.
That's a good question. I should do some research into how I want to handle my music. What do you use for ripping and converting to .flac? What are tags?
Itunes has always been slow for me but I have all my music on external HD ran through my laptop which doesn't help...about 275gigs worth.
