onkyo 607 llz

i got my onkyo 607 on friday and heres a quick summary review. first off the onboard auddessy settings are utter shizen . i thought i was gona have a setting that allowed me to not wake the residents next appartment. when i activated the dynamic range the sound was worse than my sony htib, on the trailer for twelve rounds the action effects seemed to increase the volume yet the dialoge seemed as if some one was muting it when any verbal was presant , I watched the movies and the sounds was awefull , like realy bad because i aint even fussy . I turned this feature and all of them off because they realy affect the speech like its constantly being turned down when some begins to speek , i dont know why they would pass this as a feature because onkyo must know for sure thems3elfs how bad it sounds, even the bass seems all muffled like some1 wrapped my beloved polk rti6 fxi3 and csi3 in a towel and threw it in the closet with the volume all the way up.Turning off these features and doing some minor adjust's gave me a realy clean mean machine for my 20 by 11 with 8ft high room. I turned the movie on ,taken , right away i noticed a new dimention to movies, at the start theres a car chace when he pursues his daughters kidnapping scout in a car and the engine noises where awesome , even though i dont have a sub i set my rti6 fronts to full range and the engine noises roared like a realy car lettin me me hear the components inside the engine itself, i flicked back to the sony and never heard the pronunciation as i did with the onkyo. The same was with the movie ,tell no one, theres a horse riding scene where i could realy feel the wieght of the horses hoofs trotting giving me the feeling that this was a huge horse with plenty of wieght, i couldent get that same juicy sound with the sony. i then tested out the llz on the movie taken, when he goes to the brothel to kill the guy that says good luck, the gunshots sounded better with the llz on instead of off , even though i couldent tell what speakers the shots was fired from on the front sound stage i did feel like there was an added dimention ,even though it was sutle it was still better than without llz, I listend to some music with the llz and again i liked it especialy when standing up smoking a ciggy the llz gave that extra lil dimention and was more pronounced when standin.When mi put a song on by TI u can have what ever you like, i didnt even know there was a female singing along with the track in the baground before, even at higher volumes with the sony i never heard it before, the same was with most songs i could now hear backing vocals way more pronounced. My sony was a cool receiver but i hate it now lol. it was way 2 bright but i never had them harsh highs for music with this onkyo . instead what i now hear is a nice juicy bassline i can get my teeth into when i listen to music , I decided to try some 2 channel with the 2 rti6 5 ft appart and listend to various rap music. I sat right in the centre of the speakers with a distance of about 2 meters and when i listend on 2 channel stereo mode somthing wonderfull happend, the music seemed to be coming from above my head instead of the left and right channels , almost like there was a diffrent invisable source playing in the centre further away , i closed my eyes and it was magical. I love my new onkyo and cant wait to get my ps3 back so i can further test the llz more on blue ray . People told me that this thing runs hot and they were right , after just 15 minutes of 2 channel stereo from my dish network dvr via hdmi i could have gotten out my frying pan and cooked myself breakfast , it realy did run that hot so quicly but doesnt heat up a whole lot more, the rack i orderd the marantz 7001 equipment rack from amazon 200 inc shippin ,came pre assembled and gave the onkyo a home after i let it cool down from sitting out in the open with the 2 channel from my dvr, I think the upscaling features on this machine is a joke 2, eveyone looks like they have hepatietis c on the skin tones and my pj is calabirated to 6500 kelvin , it realy was awefull to upscale a dvd using hdmi to hdmi , since my ps3 is not working i decided to give up on the dvd player i have and get the marantz 4001 dvd player from onecall for 70 dollars

Nice review Slow...

These auto-setups can be a bit ticklish, so you may want to try again. They often fail on the first or even second go through. Having said that...I've always calibrated my Onkyo manually and thought it sounded fine! It is a nice unit.

Enjoy...waiting for the PS3 review! Yeah, AVR upscaling is passable at best unless you have a really high quality upscaler...but units with those are closer to 2 grand or more!

i hear ya buddy, i think i will buy one of them decibel meters even though i dont have a clue how to use them
