I picked this up today and am really enjoying the sound. Anyone familiar with these? I will post more after some listening to a variety of speakers.

Can't say as I've ever heard, or heard of, Tonian Labs, but a google certainly shows a positive slope.

A nice report here on the supertweeter I believe are used by Tonian on the TL-D1's:

They send tuning resistors ? Interesting.

The appearance of the TL-D1's is .... austere ? And that isn't a bad thing, just a preference that some folks have versus piano or black or high gloss finishes.
The one thing I see, appearance-wise, that looks like it might present a problem is the tuning port in the back: it might just be my eyes, but that looks like it has the potential to hum/rattle.

Definitely let us know your "on-the-scene" impressions.

I really like these speakers. I read a few reviews and they seem positive. The speaker is very light, probably around 20 pounds. The dimensions are 17x10x33. They have a semi-open baffle and it comes with different size inserts to adjust the amount of bass. The baffles are securely fit. Really nice binding post. MSRP is 1750.00.

    Tech specs:System 2 way semi-open baffle
    Bass/Midrange Unit 8" Fostex Driver
    Tweeter Ribbon
    Frequency Response 42-40,000 Hz
    Nominal Impedance 8 ohm
    Sensitivity 95 dB

I have never owned as effeicent speakers. I am running on a Pioneer Elite receiver and they play loud at low volume levels. Some reviews have people using 8 watt amps to drive them easily.

The bass response is nice, quick and tight. The ribbon tweeter is very bright. High hats and cymbols are a little too bright and loud for my taste on some CD's, but sound great on others. The speakers are very unforgiving. A good recording sounds great, Directv XM stations sound horrible. (They never sound good, but are bearable with my Martin Logans).

They are very nice, but will not be replacing my Martin Logan Clarity speakers.

Any suggestions on inexpensive speaker wire to tame the brightness?

I would love to bring them to a Polkfest so you audio nuts can give your opinion.

Overall, nice, interesting speaker that I will keep for awhile.
