Anybody own a Sony S550 Blu Ray player?

If so, could you please check if your cooling fan turns on when the unit is turned on. Mine doesn't...the sales guy at Future Shop says that it turns on when it gets hot. Frankly, it didn't look like he knew and I'd say he just took a guess.

    I didn't even know my S550 had a cooling fan, so it must only come on if it gets hot.

    Nope, of-course the fan will trun-on when it goes above a certain temperature.
    I have the S350 and if you upgrade the firmware you will see a setting for fast start-up.
    if you enable it then it says it will consume more electricity and the fan will start as soon as your turn it on.

    So far so good, the load up times are acceptable, pq is good, BD live already had an update and that went smoothly. No complaints yet. I've only watched a couple of movies so far and a few episodes of Star Trek orginal series on Blu.

    i have the 550 and think its great! superb picture and sound. maybe a little slow in loadup but certainly a lot less time then being in the theater with commericals and coming attractions :D
