I found an Adcom GFP-565 on my local CL. I am interested in a preamp for a couple of reasons.

The first is the ability to use my TT with my tube amp that does not have a phono input. The other would be to allow the use of better cables for components with my vintage Marantz receiver. The Marantz RCA inputs are so close together that thicker cable connectors touch each other.

I might like to find an inexpensive preamp such as the Adcom mentioned above or a similar device. Your input would be appreciated.

I'm guessing your tube amp is intergrated? If so get a phono pre and be done with it. If you have a power amp and using a receiver for the preamp I'd surely go for a preamp instead of the receiver. I'm a little confused as to exactly what you are doing at this point????

    I have two 2-channel systems.

One system is a tube amp with CD and AUX inputs only. I would need a phono pre-amp to use a TT with it. The only other advantage in this case would be to add more input options for other gear.

The other system is a vintage receiver with multiple inputs, including phono. I want a pre-amp which would allow me to use better interconnects - it would have to have more spacing between the RCA jacks. The cables I want to use have large connects, which touch when plugged into the Marantz.

My interest in the pre-amp is not to couple these together, but as a means of accomplishing distinct tasks when used with either of the systems.

    Hope this clarifies things.

The 565 only has mag phono and the top end images a little flat with an upper edge. I use mine only for my subs.

I just sold the perfect pre-amp for your situation. has a stellar phono section. The Adcom 565 is just a very avg pre-amp

Here's the link to my FM sale. I think if you are interested my brother has a CA5 he's getting ready to sell. No obligation............but for what you are looking to do and still stay reasonable price wise. These are fantastic sounding pre-amps with very very good phono sections....even by today's stds.

Cruising Audiogon today for preamps and I see several Adcom and NAD models in my price range. Is there a general preference between these makers?

IMO, they are about the same. The Nak is a better sounding pre. If still interested I can talk w/my bro this weekend.
