I have seen too many non board related adds lately and it's really starting to PISS ME OFF! I'm not the only one either, I usually get to these later at night after someone has reported it. Here is an idea for the administrators to apply(and it'll work with this software, other forums I'm in use the same software)-set up a minimum number of posts BEFORE someone is allowed to start a new thread. I think we should take a vote on this, and I hope I'm not the only one. If you're reading these threads, you've OBVIOUSLY got internet access, and can look for that crap at you own leisure. I come here for technical advice, suggestions, and things of the like. NOT FOR **** and PILLS!

    I doubt that changing the number of posts before starting a thread will slow these type of posts down much, simply because a lot of these are responses to open threads.

    You can make it tougher perhaps for bots to come in and post by making the registration process harder. And maybe changing it so your first post can only be in the test area and allowing only that one post for 24 hrs you could significantly cut down on these.

    Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

    jrgoswick - you've been here for (apparently) more than two years, but only have 41 posts. Should you be allowed to start a new thread? Obviously you're a "lurker" but a longer standing member; number of posts doesn't mean much (I have a million and have probably said two useful things in my several years here)

    If the forum software could count the number of times the words LG or iPhone, etc. are mentioned in the post, it could automatically block. Seems most of the junk posts are phone salesmen who have had their dealership franchises cancelled.

    I agree. Most spam filters have the capability to do minor "what if's". A post count of less than 10, with the words iPhone/LG, not in the FS area - or something similar would probably nail it. Other keywords could be added as the need arises.

    Is this really worth creating a thread called "HEY-everyone please read this?" Seriously? Just report it and move on. Is it really taking that much of your time? Are you not catching the fact that the title alone seems to scream "SPAM!" and you don't notice? Do you really think some of these deals might be real then click it only to find it to be spam? Lastly, if this is what gets you worked up enough to make a thread like this, you need to find a new way to release some stress and stop worrying about the stuff you can't control. But apparently you can't control what threads you click on... lol!

    Exactly, pretty painless. What gets me as much as the spam is seeing I'm the 35th person to view it but that it hasn't been reported yet, or if reported no one bothered to post that it was. The Mods are busy, so we can help by reporting the spam, then post that, so that 40 people don't flood the mod reporting the same crap. None of us like it but, but we can help a little to clean it up.
