Fame is one of the albums I throw once in awhile to demo the SDA's. I don't normally listen to that genre of music, but it sounds really good on the SDA's--crisp and clean--and her vocals sound great and dead center even with all the other stuff going on in the songs. And a few of them are catchy at that.

So I borrowed this CD today just to see what all the talk is about. I will only say it's OK and yes I played it on the SDA's, after listening to a few songs I then put in some TOOL and came to the conclusion the LADY GAGA is not my cup of tea.

one year ago The Fame by Lady GaGa was released.. as of today it's sold 8 million. that's what octo-platinum. ? or octo-gold sales. ?? not bad for 1 year's worth of sales.

so it's either a really good CD or it sucks and 8 million people have bad taste in music. :p

Most people do have a bad taste in music. That's why bands like Nickelback can sell so many albums and be called the best band of the decade.

I don't deny these artists make catchy music, but it's entirely empty stuff. Kudos to you if that's all you need when listening to music.

That would be a compelling argument if she was actually using the bulk of those talents on her albums. I don't begrudge the woman for making money hand over fist by dumbing down what she's capable of to popular culture.

A lot of the really good music out there doesn't sell well, for whatever reason. If she had continued composing songs on the piano most people probably would have never heard of her.

So she certainly is a talented woman, but she's not really showing it on anything she's famous for.

I'm pretty sure she sings, plays piano, and writes on her albums. It shows even more in her life performances. You can even hear parts of the melodies and hook of Poker Face in the first song she plays in that youtube video. If hooking up with other musicians and producers in a studio to create new things, popular things - or to expand or refine what an artist has written is a bad thing - well then you have to take everyone from the Beatles, Elvis, and David Bowie, to Maralyn Manson, Trent Reznor, Al Jourgensen, etc, and yes even our beloved Maynard and put them all in the same basket.

Like I said her hits aren't my thing but I wouldn't judge her based on a few pop hits, which is clearly what several folks here are doing.

I don't agree with those who say she doesn't have talent, because I think she certainly does have talent. I just think that what's on the video you posted and what's on her albums are two totally different things as far as the expression of the depth of her talent is concerned. Most of her fans have probably never seen/heard that and never will.

I'd be more impressed with it if there was a little bit of complexity and depth to her albums. I won't bash music I haven't given a shot. I'm like you in that this stuff isn't my thing.

The point about music is there is a wide variety, and out of it all, there will be some you like, and some you do not like. Generally speaking, if 'you' like something then the musician has talent. If ‘you’ do not like it then the musician does not have any talent, and is an example of the degeneration of society.

When I was younger I never thought I would be a fan of anything other than R&R, yet now I listen to classical 90% of the time. There is room for Lady Ga Ga in the other 10%, although I doubt she will get as much play as do the Rolling Stones.

I am OK at eating my own words. :) she really is not that bad kinda starts to grow on you some.

Not that it really matters what my oppinion of her talent or lack of is but I have been listening to her music for some time now and she has done nothing but improve over time, Personally I think she is incredibly talented she actually sounds the same in a live performance as she does on her studio albums which is a sure sign of talent folks. Most of the POP stars out there today couldndt actually carry a tune if there life depended on it in a live performance.

She has stage presence also which only a true talented performer has, once again most POP stars dont.

Sure she looks wacky as hell lately but this creates a stir which keeps your name in the news and sells records folks, smart move actually.

To the guys who are sniveling about how manlike or ugly she is or isnt get a life, I listen to performers because of there music not there looks anyways. If you want a pretty face or a nice body to look at go do a search on Playboy models.

That is how "IT" begins. Soon your brain will liquify and become gaseous, and finally explode. Not to late for you though as an exorcism is 90% effective if performed in the early stages.:p

Shim performed here last night at Purdue University but I have yet to read the reviews. I will post a link to it as soon as I can find one.

EDIT!!! looks like she can't sing after all! She cancelled the performance at the last second last night, pissing off thousands that shelled out 200 bucks or more to see her...

I bought the double CD The Fame and The Fame Monster based on this thread, and I agree they are very well recorded. Even better, between the two CDs there are 6-8 songs I really like, and this is from a person who has never heard one Madonna song that was worth a crap.
