MONITOR 10Bs for sell.

Hello all. I am new to this forum. I have a pair of Polk MONITOR 10Bs that I would like to sell. My dad purchased them back in either 87' or 88'. I still have the original boxes that they came in. I've used them the past 6 years.

Cosmetically, they are practically flawless, no scratches, marks, etc. They also work great and put out great sound.

Would anyone care to advise me on what a good selling price would be? I attached some pictures if that would help. I have some people interested in buying, but need a good idea on what price to use.

Thanks in advance,

Seth

You need to read the rules. You do not have enough post to sell anything yet. Contribute and let people get to know you first.

I cannot ask someone what they are worth? That seems a little odd. I am not trying to sell on here. I suppose I'll figure it out myself.

$200 is a good start. They are worth every penny if they are in as good of shape as you described.

Dude, he doesn't need any number of posts here to sell them somewhere else. All he is asking is some guidance as to what to charge.

Seth, welcome to Club Polk. I can't help you too much, I would say at least $100, but I'm not sure, maybe $200. Perhaps some other folks will chime in here and help you more than I can.

Thanks guys for the replies. I figured around $200 would be a fair asking price. They are in great shape.

Anyone know what they sold for new back in 1987-88'? My dad cannot seem to remember what he paid. Maybe around 800 bucks for both?

    Thanks,

    Seth

I paid $175 for mine and they are in really good shape, though not perfect. However, I know the price has been as low as $50 for a pair.

Keep in mind that if they are vinyl clad they will fetch less than speakers with real walnut or rosewood veneer...

They look to be in excellent condition... have not seen many in that shape.

I would say $200 is very much on the high side for a stock pair of monitor 10's with that tweeter. (even in that good a condition.)

If you were selling on e-bay I would start at $50 with a $100 reserve. Selling elsewhere, I would ask $125 or $150 and settle about $25-$30 less than that.

if they had RDO's, upgraded crossovers, stands or original boxes - that may change things, but I would guess you will be holding onto them for a long time at $200 as pictured and described.

(they do look very nice though - good luck with your sale)

no worries thsmith! its all good...

jon s...ya, pretty sure they are walnut vinyl clad...my dad said the orginal boxes confirm that...ya, my dad took great care of them, and so did i....

one other question...my father is relaying some numbers off of the orginal boxes...one is 165-404..the other is 165-408...could these be the serial numbers? the back of the speakers where the wires plug in has a spot for serial numbers, but there arent any numbers there..??

    thanks all for the input...

...I don't get it. I would not sell them for less then $150.00 if in excellent condition. What the HECK can you buy today that would sound as good at that price. The drivers alone are worth that. Just because someone got a good deal is not the NORM. $150.00 plus is more than fair if the buyer appreciates the SOUND.
The drivers sell for $20.00 apiece on this forum. Lets give GOOD advice.

Keep sellers from parting out GREAT speakers.

I was wondering how you know they are monitor 10 B's. They look like they have the SL2000 tweeters. I have 10A's with the peerless tweeters. Did all 10B's have the SL2000 tweeters. If they are in perfect condition and had the peerless tweeters I would never sell them less than two hundred dollars.

    Hey Bluecomet,

SL2000,2500,3000. Peerless tweeters are what year and what model in relation to these??

The monitor 10A's and early B's had the peerless tweeters. My monitor 10A's have a fuse on the back of them. The peerless tweeters are black. I believe they were built in the late 70's or early 80's. The speakers you have I believe are either late Monitor 10B's or Monitor C's. The only way to know would be to pull the tweeter and see which tweeters you have to make sure. Is there a glass fuse on the back of the speaker. Early Monitor B's I believe had them. If your speaker was made in the late 80's it may be a monitor 10C.

So what we're saying here is that peerless predates SL2000s? Yes? I don't have 10s but SDA 2Bs with SL2000s. I was just curious because I hear people talking about peerless and always thought those were SL-series tweeters.

Is your version of good at all based in reality? I answered the question as truthfully as I could. Did you actually do any research at all before throwing out the $200 price? I happened to pay $24 for mine. I know thats not common, but neither is a sale for over $200 for a stock Monitor 10 with SL2000 tweeters.

    From RECENTLY completed E-bay auctions....
