I think im gonna upgrade from my 606 and get one with preouts and a bit more power....

which one is a better buy...the 705 100 watts or the 805 130 watts...

that extra 30 watts per channel sound pretty good and the price isnt that much more,..maybe 150 or so

I can state from experience jumping from a Yamaha with 105 watts per channel to a Pioneer 130 watts per channel, there is a significant difference. I know this is kind of apples to oranges analogy. But I would say that when you buy a reciever that gives to 130 watts over 7 channels into 8 ohms, you get a much better product generally speaking. Well in my case I did anyway.

Pound for pound, dollar for dollar the 805 is perhaps the best Onkyo has made in while. There are better receivers. But you won't get the power a 50+ pound 805 with Burr Brown DACs and 60 amps of instantaneous current output. The only thing it doesn't have that the higher 875 has is the silicon optics video chip upconversion and VLSC processing for digital sound. Otherwise the amp sections are almost twins.

805 (exempting video) some of the best 'value' ever from Onkyo! And into 8 ohms it will give you at LEAST 130 watts into 5 channels...so it's honestly rated for power. It can do 7.1 as well of course.

OP, as most will tell you get as much as you can within your means. If you can spring for the 876 or 906 do it.

It looks like with the speakers you have you will be happy with the upgrade in power. And since you have the upgrade bug, the pre outs will be nice when you can get an amp.

Rocco is right. But that's why I qualified above, dollar for dollar, pound for pound you can't beat the value of an 805 for 'sound'. The 806 has a bit better Video upconversion. But the 805 stomps it in sound because it's so much like the 875.
