I remember when stationed in Germany from 1983-1989, I had an arch-rival across the hall from me. His name was Jesse. Jesse & I were both hi-fi crazy, wanting a little something more than a receiver, cassette deck, and economy speaks.
Jesse was a Carver/Bose man, running a C-1 pre, M1.5T amp, and Bose 901 Series IV's at the time. I was a Soundcraftsmen/Acoustic Research man, running an A5002, Yamaha C-85 pre, and a pair of AR9Lsi's. We used to bust each others balls about stuff we didn't like about each others systems--but really enjoyed getting together and geeking out about all things audio.
Good memories, with the exception of having to listen to Jesse's friggin Talking Heads albums all the time....LOL

In MECA they have the Hatfield and McCoy award they hand out every year to 2 competitors that have battled it out, back and forth all season long. Ive won it twice.
In 2006, me and Rick McConnell hit about 20 different shows together. One week he'd win - the next week Id win. At 3 different shows we tied and had to have a tie breaker. At Alabama State Finals we tied....three times! The score sheets from 3 judges were averaged together and we tied. So they averaged the tonality scores as a tie breaker - we tied. Then they went to imaging - we tied. Finally on the 4th scheme I edged him out by .7 points. It was awesome to see the judges literally scratching their heads trying to figure out how to do 3 tie breakers. Ricky got the last laugh tho by beating me at World Finals that year.
In 2008 Jonathan Denton and I beat on each other all year long. Back and forth. One of us edging the other out by barely a point. That year I got the last laugh by beating him at Finals (still came in 2nd tho).
Ah, good times!polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Towards the end of my college days (mid 70s), one of my best friends, Jim, had this killer Marantz Model 19 with a gold faceplate, an Akai GX-280D reel to reel and some Infinity Q speakers. It was a very nice rig. We used to go over to his house and play bridge all night long with that system knocking out the tunes. I had a better TT than him but every other piece of gear he owned was a notch or two above mine. I haven't seen him in many years or even know if he is still into audio. I bet he is."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

Yep. Jerry.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

My audio nemesis was an emergency room doctor back in the early 1990's. This guy had a bunch of Bryston amps with some huge Maggies in the main listening room and several smaller two channel systems in other rooms.
This guy was insane, cool, but insane. When I first heard his main system (incredible sound) he prodded me to turn it up (plenty of booze in us at this point) and the the right Maggie took offense and didn't survive the night!
He just laughed and we pulled some other speakers (I can't remember what they were) out of another room and kept partying (the girls still wanted to dance, after all).
I was running Parasound amps with some LS90's and some ESS AMT 1-d's at the time. I lost touch with this guy. I'll probably live longer as he was a terrible influence on me. Good times. We were pretty poor growing up, I used to go with my Dad to places he had work to do at, he always told me to sweep the floor whereever he was working, heck, he did it so much I thought my name was Sweep the Floor until I was seven. Anyway, he would give me a dime, so I would save them up until I could buy a 45, which cost 30-39 cents back then, so my nemisis were the rich kids who could buy albums, whole albums of songs those things were awesome, I hated those rich kids, I beat a couple of them up and took there records home with me one day, they snitched (of course) so I got a whuppin for giving them a whuppin and then I lost all my 45's as punishment and had to sweep the floor's for nothing........
man I got issues.

My audio nemesis is live sound; I just can't seem to get my rig to sound like it...

Well, my own self is my worse enemy. I got to where I am now coz me but this crazy ambition needs to stop at some time later along the line. I may never succeed but I got to battle the enemy within me!Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin:
