For all the Denon fans, new receivers are on the way. Very interesting to say the least. I like the look of the new remotes, pics and info shown here.

The five models span from entry level to mid-level in terms of their price points within the category:

* AVR-1610 ($379)
* AVR-1910 ($549)
* AVR-2310CI ($849)
* AVR-3310CI ($1,499)
* AVR-4310CI ($1,999)

All of the receivers include Dolby's new PLIIz processing. The AVR-4310CI includes Audyssey's DSX processing for expanded front or width surround processing.

    Interesting,

    Do you know if the 3310 is a replacement for the 2809 or 3808 or a model in between because the MSRP is reduced from a 3808 but more than a 2809. It also receives a remote very much like the AVR 989 rather than the 2809?

    The Onkyo AVR's were just the first to be released with Dolby PLIIz. I'm sure over the next year we'll be seeing AVR's from many companies getting released with the new codec.

    Those look like some nice AVR's.

    This PLIIz is really making me think though...when will it end? Now we have front "height" channels. It's just a matter of time before we have center height channels, and then surround height and surround back height channels. Then a full 7.1 with height all around won't be good enough...

    Height subwoofers?:confused::eek:

    Within the next few years are we going to have full on 14.2 systems in all of our homes?...lol

    You've got a point there Curt.

    I think we're headed toward 6 surface sound membranes that vibrate your walls, floor and ceiling and subs in every corner and b-kickers under every viewing chair. There will be SO MUCH SOUND IN THE ROOM YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO watch the movie? Too distracted by all the vibrations!

    LOL, no kidding!! I am glad that I won't be buying anything for the new house till August. These new Denon's look real nice, hopefully they made them a little more user friendly.

    Marketing sells more than personal needs more times than not, I would bet. :confused:

    I think this is basically the same as Yamaha "Presence Speakers" which I never tried but have heard more than 1 experienced voice say it was not worth the speakers or the wire. The only thing that could change this would be if they were discrete channels that sound engineers and producers actually could find enough content to put on them that actually added to the experience and not just gimmicky sounds that just confirm that there is something there.

    From what I’ve read, IIz does have a few benefits.

    It’s matrix-based which doesn’t depend on re-mastering the original content. It works with the existing media so you can enjoy (or not) it right away.

    The two “height” channel can use the amps for the back channels so 7.1 receivers can still be used (with height chosen instead of traditional 7.1 back). In other words, for some people it could be more of an alternative 7.1 system than a 9.1 system for the same money.

    In listening test it seems to add more “realism” to action movies & games than back channels (I know, subjective).

    It’s a lot easier to add speakers in the front in most rooms than to add them to the back.

    Tonal balance isn’t as big a factor so you can use less expensive speakers for height.

    It no doubt beats the crap out of "stadium" and "club" mode.

    It's backed by Dolby and can be a software-only thing (cheap) so it probably has a better chance of becoming accepted than a single brand system like Yamaha's presence thing.

    Even if part of all that is true, I wouldn't be too quick in writing it off.

    Well the ones you posted were the custom install ones, the consumer ones are AVR-990 (SRP: $1,499, July '09), AVR-890 (SRP: $799, June '09), AVR-790 (SRP: $499, June '09) and AVR-590 (SRP: $349, June '09).

    If you read up on the specs. you get alot of bang for your buck this time around. Im goingt to go with AVR-890, because it has 5 hdmi inputs, 1 output, a brand new UI that works over hdmi, and has even better specs than the current Avr-2809CI and AVR-989.

    The AVR-990 is good too but has a network plug-in on it to stream music and a better upscaler, but thats what I have a Ps3 and Xbox360 for to stream music and the PS3 upscales fine for me so Ill rather save the money.

    Not really bang for buck considering only the 990 has networking. They should have also gone with 2 HDMI out as well. Nice AVRs but I'll stick with the Elite, more bang for buck than these. Overall nice product line on both consumer and pro market.

    I agree. The lack of networking except at the $1500+ end is a disappointment as well as the lack of pre-outs. Of course the 990 will probably be discounted a few hundred at least. It appears Denon is not going after the "receiver as pre/pro" market which is unfortunate. You would think that adding pre-outs would be very cheap. Still, the lower end looks like a lot of value for the money and I'm glad they revamped the GUI and added PLIIz. I just can't figure out the overall marketing philosophy.

    Agreed. Some of these Denon's look nice, but when I upgrade my AVR I'll be getting a Pioneer Elite SC-07. It's the best bang for the buck out there as far as AVR's go.

    Id buy a Pioneer Elite 10 out of 10 times.

    Never been a Denon fan and their new line looks to be more of the same.

    Until the ICE-amps.....only the highest model Elite has ever impressed me. The lower models have been just OK IMHO. A lot of this is subjective. I've always liked the sound of higher model Denons more than low end Elites...except for the ICE amps. That's something different!

    I think it's highly unlikely that the amp section in the new 890 is the equivalent of the more pricey 2800 series! It's got be be less beefy....can't produce it at that price point. Probably more like an 889.

    You have a high level Elite there. Wasn't that the flagship or near it for that year!

    Your right after I did some more research I realized that the new 890 is pretty much the 889, and the 990 is last years 989, but now it has a network jack on it and bumps up the price from retail 1199 to 1499. There are a few added things but I guess for a mid level receiver it would be good enough because it has all the new audio codecs.

    I did look at that pioneer and thats super nice but I think for me its a little too much.
