Hey guys-
Seems to be a vast array of different skills here so I thought I'd throw this out...
I recently installed a new kitchen sink for a friend. No leaks, everything works great except when the dishwasher drains water comes out of the airgap and runs all over the counter. The air gap was new when I did the sink so I know it's not gummed up. The disposal looked kind of nasty inside, maybe that's it? All of the other hoses "seem" OK. Any other thoughts? TIA

Not a plumper, but a jack of all skills. I would check the dishwasher drain hose at disposal for blockage. :)

Yup.. that's the most probably cause. If your friend haven't use the dishwasher much, and uses the disposer daily, it will get blocked. You need to take out the drain hose from the dishwasher to disposer and clear out the blockage.

In addition, make sure you do a loop with the drain hose above the connection to the garbage disposer. Don't want any dirty water going back into the dishwasher.

No a plumber either.. just a DIY

Was the dishwasher previously connected to the disposal? If not check to see if the inlet for the dishwasher on the disposal is open. If a dishwasher was never connected to this disposal then the factory seal in the disposal may still be intact. You'll need a hammer and a screw driver to remove it.

Thanks for all of the replies. Confirmed my suspicions. Gotta go back and check for blockage in the drain hose. The DW was in use before so I know the slug was knocked out already.
