I really noticed that too - it was hard to see what was going on. -
I understand many of the above concerns about plot holes and the action sequences - but no one has mentioned the IMAX version and how cool that was.
Granted it made it even harder to follow the fight sequences - but the overall experience was great with the huge screen and great sound. It was really immersive.
It seemed like it was only available for a short time - or maybe that was based on IMAX theater availability. When I went the place was packed.
I really liked having this as an option. -
I'm down in DC with my brother & we saw this on Saturday. WE LOVED IT!
We grew up watching the original series, so I went in being very sceptical.
However, once I figured out it was an alternate timeline (Remember the Mirror Universe episode where SF was evil & Spock had a beard?) I was able to accept it & get into it. And let's face it, Time Travel, & alternate universes are ST STAPLES people! That is the whole point of science fiction. Anything is possible.
In this timeline things naturally changed, but they kept the core of what Star Trek is, represents & means to most people.
Abrams did an outstanding job. The casting was outstanding, The plot & FX's believable.
He did a wonderful job of telling a new story while being respectful of the first show that made this one possible.
The inclusion on Leonard Nimoy especially the scene at the end with his younger self & him doing the voice over of the traditional ending with the original theme playing in the background brought tears to my eyes. And the dedication at the end of credits to Mr. & Mrs. Rodenberry was the icing on the cake!
This was TRULY an ensemble movie & everyone got their moment in the spotlight & they all NAILED IT!
If you don't let yourself think like a complete Trekkie geek bogged down by all the little details & keep an eye on the whole picture, you will love this movie.
I plan to see it again when I go home.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -

I just got around to seeing this one. My daughter took me to see it for Father's day. I rarely go to the theater, preferring my own HT...but the right movie will get me out of the house. This was one of those movies. We saw it in an IMAX theater...very cool. The alt-universe was fine as it allowed for a different story line...but I still liked the way they tied this movie to the original series with subtle hints and phrases that only a true trekie would notice. IE: Captain Pike in a wheel chair at the end.
All in all a good film. Definitely a DVD buy and maybe even a revist to the theater."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais
"For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't believe, no proof is possible." - Stuart Chase
"Consistency requires you to be as ignorant today as you were a year ago." - Bernard Berenson -
