RTiA9's x SDA 2's
So i just did a side by side test down in my Basement. Listening to Kamelot the Black Halo and Michael Jackson's off the wall (this one for the bass response this CD has) I can atest the A9's can handle there own here with music to the SDA 2's. Now i can not say anything about the A5's or A7's as i have not heard them, and i know the cabnet on the A9's has a different design then the 5's and 7's. but even without sub help on the A9's the A9's dig deep on the base side. on the Highs i would have to give a slight edge and i mean slight edge to the SDA 2's.
But if i was someone looking for a tower speaker to handle music and HT without the expense of the LSI series and the expense of powering the the LSI series to handle music and HT. I give the A9's an A+ in my book. I have been very pleased with the purchase of my HT set up. it will be with me for many years to come. i have no desire to change it up. The only thing that would change is if we moved and i had the room to have a 1080p projector.
My reveiw here is only with what experiance i have incountered the last few months as i know many of you have had many experiances with all types of gear and speakers.
The A9's Kick **** in my book considering i paid $1000 for them from Polk even makes this purchase all the better.
Now back to moving the SDA 2's back to bedroom duty.
Larry.

i always wanted a set of RTIA9s, i think they look great and some how i knew they would sound just as good as they look.

I have RTIA5's for my fronts and I'm sure they don't dig as deep as your A'9s . However, I just bought a new reciever and they are considerably more dynamic now then they were with my Yamaha reciever.
I am considering A9's myself but I can't purchase till my daughter goes off to college and I set up a home theater room."They're always talking about my drinking, but never mention my thirst" Oscar Wilde

The SDA2's are some Bad **** speakers i absolutly love them. By no means am i putting the A9's above them. The base they produce and with some time on the RDO194's they keep getting better. all i was getting at is the A9's are some Bad **** speakers as well they dig just as deep. It was nice to have the time to move some things around and do a side by side comparison. I suggest every one that has not heard the SDA's just try a pair of SDA2's to get a taste of them. and for the cost that they can be had it is worth every cent. put the RDO194's in them, and my guess is you will be hooked on them like a crack head is to the pipe.Polk Audio SDA 2.3tl Fully Hot Rodded. 😎

That's interesting to know. I've always felt that if I were going Rti- I'd go straight for the 9s. I think their different crossover config gives them a bit more musicality than the lower models!
What I'm interested, and I know the majority of you are not into vintage JBL, is how the SDAs will sound compared to my old (pure titanium tweeter) Studio Monitors. Because that tweeter has marvelous RESOLUTION and highly accurate detail IMHO! And of course it has JBL signature Bass. I suspect that two will just be way too different to really compare and the SDAs will probably IMAGE better because of the 'effect'. Don't know that the SL2000 is going to take the JBL tweeter. I have my doubts there. But I'm willing to be pleasantly surprised!

The A9's certainly have a great sound to them. I run them with out using subs and they rock HARD. Someday I'll compliment some nice subs to take that low end off. However, with my Carver powering them, listening to a drum solo off the Sheffield Drum & Track disc... watching those meters at 375 watts rms while smiling because the headroom after that is so clean and loud. It's like I'm sitting there playing them myself. It's a very intimate experience that I only get with the speakers and no subs. However I'm greedy and want a couple nice sealed subs to kick me hard in the chest when that kick drum is banging...
No one is kidding when they say these speakers were built to love power. Even with headroom to 750 watts, they make the lights dim when called upon. But that's too loud for my small room.
These will be the center of a great 2 channel setup to build out on. -
