r50's and monitor 30's

I am new to the home theater thing. I recently upgraded my 27 inch crt tube tv to a 61 samsung led dlp rptv and once I saw the beauty in high def I had to finish the setup. My tv view area is in my basement, room is approx. 10x13. I have an old technique receiver that was given to me, I think maybe 100w total output, will upgrade to what I dont know. I dont have the money to shell out hundreds of dollars for speakers. From frys.com I recently purchased a set of cherry r50's and I absolutely love them. Due to room arrangement, which is being changed, they flank my seating area. Sitting next to either the left or the right makes it impossible to hear anything but that speaker so I am planning on moving them up to flank my tv and operated as the front speakers. I just purchased a set of monitor 30's(cherry) from another online company and want to use them as my rear speakers. Two questions, 1. will they blend with the r50's? 2. Should they be placed on shelves located above the seating area for best surround sound quality? Mind you, I had a four set sony mini speakers set up originally, two in front and two in the rear above the seating area and they sounded well to my untrained ear, so you can imagine the step up with the polk speakers.     Welcome, lriker.

    As you can see from my signature, I'm running R50's as fronts, and Monitor 30's as the rear surrounds.
    I like your choice of Monitor 30's as rear surrounds; they are incredible little speakers, more than up to perfroming rear surround duties.

    Putting the 30's on shelves on the wall located behind the seating area would be an excellent idea. I had to mount mine on the side walls, above and slightly behind the listening position due to room restrictions, but they work well there, also.

    I didn't see a center speaker listed in your post; a CS1 center can be had for cheap, and will work well with your other Polks. $50 on Polk's ebay site:
