Are they worth picking up for $90? Just to play with.

For a mint pair, I paid $175. They are worth every penny. Then again mine are 10B's, but for $90, the regular 10's should be good.

    TFLF,
Monitor 10B's are the pinnacle for me with regards to Polk Audio. Not by choice mind you, I own a pair of 1B's long distance, I just never have actually never seen them. Back on topic.
I paid $750.00 new in 1986 for mine. I have drug them all over gods great earth and continue to enjoy them every day. They have never let me down, except for maybe when playing music with subterranean bass, not that they are bass shy, but they have their limitations like many other speakers.
I have upgraded to the 194 tweets and new guts on the X-overs and to my ears sound pretty damn good.
They do like being fed good amounts of power, what else is new, but I have driven them with a 13 watt integrated tube amp and was completely satisfied as long as the volume was kept to a sane level.
90.00 is a great price if they are still working, get them and enjoy them.
    Happy trails,
    Nathan

I've been wanting to get my ears on a pair of 10's. I love my 7A's, and would be interested in seeing how the compare with the 10's.

They have more bass output obviously, but I've heard numerous complaints about the 10's having a smeared sounding midrange due to the side by side MW's. It seems that a lot of people really prefer the 7's due to that fact.

$90 is a pretty good price though. What kind of 10's are they? Originals, A's, B's?

Speaker ****!!:p I need to get some more Polk's and catch up with you!

Except for more bass, 10's don't have anything on 7's.

I agree as an owner and user of both, that the 10's strength is it's bass. As to a muddy midrange, I am not sure that I notice it. (That does not mean it isn't there, just not in my realm of discernment) While playing both using the same material I do notice that the sound of the 10's is fuller(?) I assume the additional driver does that.
One benefit is that the 7's are a much smaller and lighter setup if space is a concern. I still wonder how they were ever described as 'bookshelf' models.
If I had to choose, and wanted one of them I would lean towards the 7's for the comparable/pleasing sound, and smaller footprint.
    For what it is worth.
